Re: Back to Slaloms

Thats so good to hear Mike. I am genuinely pleased that it went down well. I am looking forward to having a UK event to go to! I have been lucky enough to have been at 3 internationals in the last few weeks and the feeling of being back helping at events (and catching up with friends) was nice. It w...

Re: Back to Slaloms

I don't think there is anything stopping anyone from running an open event if they want to do so (so no blockers). It just takes a club with a venue to do so.

Re: British Open/ HPPCC/SS open

Interestingly I was windsurfing at a lake over the weekend and managed to avoid being crushed by what seemed like 1000000 sailing boats racing around a course on the same lake! The interesting bit for me (other than being able to avoid them which was a personal success :D ) was that they were back t...

Re: Timing

The way I look at it is if the beams and kit the timing team use are good enough for the Olympics they are good enough for us!!! :D

Re: Paddlers that have problems making their minds up!

I think organisers that accept cancellations for any reason other than promotions (which are more unique to our sport) are very generous. Many other sports (such as running) do not allow cancellations. They may allow transferring of entries but it's for the entrant to sort out and update on line but...

Re: RIP Ken Trollope

And quite amazing to think that he really did carry on contributing right up to the last - it's less than three weeks since he sent out the latest update to SimplySlalom. He was judging on the riverbank on Sunday :-( It was him that I quoted in my Facebook post (which brings a smile to my face). Su...

Re: Best kayak?

Jim McConnachie makes boats from his place in Wales. JEM - they seem to be getting very popular on the British scene. I am not sure what he has in terms of demo boats but his contact details are on http://www.jem-racing.co.uk/

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

You can't tell me a football player would rather have an Olympic medal over a World Cup medal, a tennis player would have an Olympic medal over winning Wimmbledon, or a golf player would have an Olympic medal over winning the British Open. And that's why those "sports" shouldn't be in the Olympics!...

Re: Championship Format in Prem

(it is a choice!) Perhaps you are right but to be honest at the moment I don't feel it is. I genuinely feel pressured into doing what I do because if I don't my husband and friends will have to do it and they far more patient and tolerant than I am so won't walk away and leave people in the lurch. ...

Re: Championship Format in Prem

Dee: "You mean those VOLUNTEERS who give up their own TIME to run the sport and spend equal amount of THEIR OWN money on accommodation etc. so that YOU can compete? I don't know whey they bother." I was not meaning to be rude about volunteers, Sorry, but to me it did come across as rude about the v...

Re: Championship Format in Prem

The sport is already extremely expensive, so it would be great if those who run it gave more consideration to how to help us continue to take part, without feeling that we are wasting time and money due to late publication of information. You mean those VOLUNTEERS who give up their own TIME to run ...

Re: Championship Format in Prem

I suspect it was unintended consequences to keep the race as an ICF ranking race. As an organiser trying to abide by rules, sometimes the reality versus the theory plays out in a strange way. This is my understanding. Also British paddlers qualifying as internationals were not eligible for the Brit...

Re: Championship Format in Prem

When people say "like in Europe" I assume they mean the ECA events? The ICF and Euros (Also ECA but different format it would seem) are not run on an age basis. Why would we be trying to make domestic events like the ECA ones?

If done on an age basis how do you envisage points being allocated?

Re: Rules around promotions and paddle up entries

My view is that the promoted paddler should take priority over paddle ups as it is now their host event (regardless of whether or not they put in a paddle up entry). Thus my vote is with (a) in the scenario you envisage.
