Just a thought, but if badly filled/incomplete entry forms are causing a real problem and a lot of extra work for event organisers, isn't it time a harsher regime was adopted with regard to them? They are not difficult to complete, thus it would suggest a certain amount of laziness on the part of c...

Glad you enjoyed it. As you may know, we failed to get onto next year's calendar, by a few days. We will be considering whether to try and get in as a late addition. In view of the tiny numbers of Div 4 entries (8 Saturday, 5 Sunday) we need to give thought about whether to include Div 4. Several o...

Ranking is fine, but I think we have too many divisions. When I started in 1970 there were three divisions, plus novice, where you got promoted after two finishes. The number of paddlers wasn't that different to now - I don't have figures to hand, but if I must, I think I've still got the 1971 year...

Just to let you know that the online entry system for the Nene slalom on August 14th/15th is up and running. 5 entries so far. Don't forget we had to turn away entries last year. Shortly after Control opened on the Saturday, we had reached the limit for both days. The message is enter, and pay, ear...

The online entry system for the Nene Slalom on August 29/30 is now running. Last year we had to turn away entries on both days, so I suggest entering in advance. We take payment by PayPal, so there's no paperwork at all. This year the campsite will be available until the Monday morning, as it's a b...

The website for the Nene 2/3/4 double slalom on August 11/12th is now accepting entries. Just go to http://slalom.nckc.org.uk/index.html for preliminary information. There is a link for entries halfway down that page. Please report any problems to me at alan.adams@orchard-way.freeserve.co.uk Alan A...

There is some logic as to why this is being suggested (and it is at present only a suggestion!). There is a need I feel, and I think agreed by the majority that we need to stop 2,3,4 event as a course suitable for div 4 is certainly not suitable for div 2 and vica verca. 2,3,4's are generally run t...

Where did you get the 25cumecs figure from? None of the pumped artificial sites are more than 20cumecs and I'm sure they realise that that kind of site would be unsustainable. The figure came from one of the organisations bidding to build it. The cost calculation is fairly simple - how many tons of...

Several people have commented on entry systems. As you may know we have taken online entries the last two years, and it has worked well, especially this year. (We don't take the money online, as credit cards get far too complicated. We could use PayPal, but I don't know what proportion of paddlers ...

Comments from my perspective of organising the Nene event. Changing to best of 3 runs will reduce the number of entries we can accept by one third - because our water time is severely limited. Actually we could have more time, if we paid more for it. Reducing our entry reduces our income without ha...

Broxbourne is proposing to run 25 cumecs, lifting it through 3 metres of height. The electricity cost is fairly simple to predict - about 200 pounds per hour. I assume it will be subsidised in order to keep it open until the Olympics. I don't see that happening for long afterwards. The only way I s...

I have yearbooks from 1971 - so if you want really old data... Interestingly the number of paddlers then was around 800, so we're almost back to that point. There were however a LOT less events. I believe there are a number of factors contributing to the reduction in numbhers since the '80s. First ...
