Re: Simplifying Vets
I take your point Dave about favouring one section of paddlers over others, however there are some pragmatic issues here. The picking and choosing is really helpful for club coaches who are supporting competitors over a range of divisions and want to race as well. This also goes for parents who have...

Howsham Weir Fish Pass - Conclusion
The Environment Agency has concluded its consultation and decision making process on Howsham Weir with the following update: Following consultation, engagement and further work on design, our decision document has been published here this morning. This sets out what we plan to put in place at Howsha...

Howsham Canoe Chute Under Threat
Howsham Canoe Chute Under Threat - ACTION NEEDED The Environment Agency want to put in two fish-passes and an eel pass into the Weir at Howsham. There are a number of proposals under consultation at the moment. One of the proposals is to put baffles into the canoe chute as this is a cheaper option. ...

Linton Canoe Course To Go Ahead
I have created a new topic as hopefully the understandable negativity of commercial rafting taking over the Linton Canoe Course has been dispelled in the previous thread. There was a Linton Management Group meeting last night where it was confirmed that the finance trigger point for the £2.5m bond i...

Re: Linton Locks reborn
Yes Jim, one of the great things about the Linton project is the lack of pumps, as this is what makes it so green and inexpensive to run. For those interested in the Linton Hydro investment opportunity the full Bond Offer Document and be downloaded here: http://www.lintonhydro.co.uk/find-out-more.ph...

Re: Linton Locks reborn
A couple of other points about the management of the Linton Canoe Course to put minds at ease:
- The lease for the canoe course will be held by the Yorkshire Regional Committee, just like the Washburn
- The current terms of the lease prevent a commercial operation at the course

Re: Linton Locks reborn
The planned course at Linton will have permanent slalom gates and floodlights but it will be a canoe course for the benefit of all canoeist not just slalom. This is because the £200k grant towards the building of the canoe course has come from Sport England via British Canoeing Facilities Department...

Re: Paddle for Nepal
Yes it is a shame it clashes with Washburn and Fairnilee but for those not competing that weekend it should be a great gathering with evening lectures etc. and of course the slalom training camp at Mile End Mill.
Just let me know if you would like to attend the slalom training camp.

Re: Paddle for Nepal
Correction: It is Llangollen Outdoors rather than Llangollen Adventure that are putting the gates up at Mile End Mill.

Paddle for Nepal
Dave Manby (of Canoe Down Everest fame) is organsing a paddlefest at Llangollen on 27/28th June in aid of Nepal Earthquake Relief. The idea is that anyone who goes along to paddle the River Dee donates £20 that will get to where it is needed through two longstanding Nepali charities. Llangollen Adve...

Re: musings on the sport
David Cameron's point was about not applying industrial standards of regulation to volunteers. The most dangerous thing about running a slalom I think is building courses on natural river sites. If this activity attracted industrial level risk assessments then professional riggers and scaffold inspe...

Re: musings on the sport
Dave - You have a right to be VERY ANGRY. the world is going barmy! A couple of years ago David Cameron stood up in parliament and said the voluntary sector needs to be deregulated (particularly around over zealous heath and safety procedures) to make life easier for those who volunteer their time. ...

Re: 6.10 Portable points proposal with a view to implement 2
I really cannot see what is to be gained by this proposal but there is a great deal to lose. Any paddler wanting to develop themselves on more testing water can already paddle up without having to judge. What will be lost will be the encouragement gained by youngsters that comes from winning trophie...
