A huge thankyou to everyone who helped my dad/mum/myself on sunday. We were overwhelmed by everyone's kindness and help. He's doing well despite more injuries than we suspected at first.

Neil, if you or the slalom committee draft a letter I'd post a copy to the above minister if you thought it would help, and others would do the same. At the very least there should be an obligation for these venues to offer some not-for-profit slalom competition days (preferably subsidised by rafti...

Munchkin, do you think having rafts/ lots of kayaks on such big continuous water (olympic course) at the same time is dangerous no matter how good the paddlers are ? Presumably some of those stoppers are really grabby, so getting out of the way of a raft might not be easy. I was wrong to think all ...

Hi Munchkin, I couldn't find out any information about the assessments and thought I'd just share the centre's replies with the forum to save people asking the same questions. I asked if the centre could watch the first runs on Saturday as a form of assessment, and that they might liase with the co...

Is there any rule stating that you can't have a rotating paddle wheel attached to the stern, driven by pedal power? You'd need a pulley system a bit like an overstern K1 rudder.

I couple of 'claw' holds on the hull would allow the beaver to use its tail for added speed, with no-one supecting a thing... :D
I wonder if some of the prem paddlers are using this ploy already...

Went again yesterday for 3 hours paddling following by 3hours of going down flumes at the pool next door with my munchkins (no offence Munchkin, but thats what I call them). My wife quickly noticed that all you had to do was open a little gate to walk round the course. I never have been much good a...

Perhaps the centre could turn up the flow to 12 cumecs at certain times to increase the depth and reduce the risk of damage to slalom boats. I had a few crunches, but no lasting damage.

Really enjoyed my first visit yesterday. It was such luxury to take the conveyer back up to the start. I think it was probably running around 8-9 cumecs (usual leisure level) making it far more forgiving than when the pumps are turned right up (max 16cumecs). It was shallow, making it possible for ...
