Why don't Lee Valley ask you to wear a helmet as well ?

Come to think of it, I wish I'd lent my dad a helmet to walk by Abbey Rapids. Its easy with hindsight, but I think non-paddling spectators are at significant risk espec if they're getting on a bit.

Juggling 3 skittles would be a lot easier in a C1 - extra height before the skittles hit the water. I shall try it in a K1 on flat water first - until I've learnt how to paddle with them as well... Of course C2 would be a doddle with someone else to do all the paddling - would look great on youtube.

Thanks Peter, great advice. I've haven't done any ironing for years but I reckon I could juggle 3 skittles in a kayak.

Must dash, time to look for those armbands the children used to use... :D

PeterC - I hope you go to lots of slaloms, its great to have someone of your experience around. You've also identified that I didn't have much idea of how to rescue an unconscious paddler. Its very useful to have 'what would you do?' discussions.

That gives me an idea for a new sport - whitewater slalom swimming (elbow and knee pads essential).

I'm sure you're right Munchkin. I just had a mental image of lots of people at a busy event, so being in the water myself would be fairly safe at the finish line, with a chance to give mouth to mouth in the water if they weren't breathing. I don't think I could get someone unconscious to the river ...

Faced with someone unconscious in the water, I'd capsize my own boat and get in the water myself if there was no-one on the bank close by.

Perhaps the payment side would then be able to link to a "central point" where, depending on the event, the payment would be directed to the merchant account. Personally, I would be willing to pay for about 8 entry fees in one go at the start of the season. These fees could be held 'on account'. Bu...

Picture this (twilight zone music in background)...January 2012 (oh help isn't the earth's crust about to melt - what's the melting temp of carbon?) - 300 paddlers all pay in advance online for on average 5 slaloms (entering personal details only once, or not at all for those with a ppppaaasssword)...

I asked one of the K1 racers in our club today whether he thought any of our youngsters would be interested in trying out slalom. The answer was - we've tried slalom (as a club) already, there are some slalom boats in the shed (old 4m ones) if you want to buy any. When I meet playboaters they don't...

Perhaps the 2012 season could see a number of changes to encourage participation. I would argue that allowing electronic entries for div4 should be the first to be introduced to get more people involved as soon as possible. Does anyone have any ideas for making returning old bibs/ receiving new one...

Perhaps we should all take photos of our kayaks, and ask Nick to post a pic of any stolen.

Thanks Munchkin, you are the fountain of all knowledge. Great site - have registered and watched the video. I wonder if the bike tag could go under a seat. I think I'll buy some of the stickers and probably the immobi dot marking kit. Is the kit easy to use ? Maybe Nick could put a link to the site...

How about an electronic tag of some sort ? I've no idea how big/expensive/waterproof/readable they are, but maybe they could be put under a seat or even a patch of carbon fibre. Doesn't deter someone from stealing the kayak in the first place though. I wonder how many paddlers are locking their boa...
