Very constructive and supportive of volunteers

Anyone can make a mistake, a public forum site is hardly the best place to highlight it.

Part of my paid job is about working with and supporting volunteers. I therefore am very interested in the work Andy is proposing. I have indeed spoken to members of the committee in the past about some of the issues experienced by volunteers and the sort of support and recognition they should be g...

Are you volunteering? Thought not. And this attitude is exactly why people don't volunteer and those that do feel undervalued. Instead of making assumptions, ask people to volunteer for specific tasks giving them a guideline of what is expected and how much commitment is involved. You may be surpri...

BCU has been very successful at attracting funding but it has left teh BCU exposed to the argument that the level of public support is disproportionate to the level of internally generated funding (i.e. Membership). Many funders will not give grants to 'exclusive' membership only clubs and groups. ...

Just heard of this funding which may be useful to the clubs out there... Cash 4 Clubs offers grants of £250 - £1K to support grassroot sports clubs. No preference is given to types of sport or the age range accessing the activity, but clubs should play an active role in the community, encourage soc...

I regularly feel saddened at slaloms when I see discarded food and drink containers most of which appears attributable to paddlers. Unfortunately this not only occurs at slaloms. I know at the end of other events, (paddling and non paddling) which I have run - litter picking is a massive job. :angr...

Another interesting statistic to throw in here .... of the div 1 paddlers who competed on the Sunday at HPP and at Washburn last weekend, there were 6 paddlers who recieved one or more 50's at the Washburn yet got two clear runs at HPP. Therefore some may use this to argue that this means the HPP c...

With regard to officals smoking I'm sure that nobody would smoke whilst carrying out their offical duties. Perhaps you should look a little closer at the next event you attend. On the subject of moving away - there may be a good reason why you need to be in the position you are in and can not move ...

Two years ago tomorrow England banned smoking in public enclosed or substantially enclosed premises and vehicles. This was a dilution of the original health bill which had suggested prohibition of smoking in public premises, places and vehicles. Today the EU has been debating and voting on a bill w...

While this thread may seem like a good idea at first, in reality it may not be! The problem is that other than lottery based grants, most are regionally based and therefore what is good for one area is useless to everyone else. Also at this time of year I get an average of 6 e-mails a day alerting ...

Hi Spiderman The grassroots grant is not a council one, so I think you may have tried a different fund - there are a lot out there. Try the Community Development Foundation, they are the main body overseeing this and should be able to give you a local link - details available here: http://www.cdf.o...

On the subject of funding.......groups may want to apply for grassroot grants. This is a £130 million pot offered by the office of the third sector (Sorry only available in England) over three years. The money is being managed by various groups at a local level, so not sure exactly who is manageing...
