Did I read it right? The BCU has tickets and will SELL them to the Slalom Committee!! If correct, only within Britain's level of bureaucracy could this be logically explained.

I pretty much spent 23 years being educated and I have to, regretfully, admit I just don't understand this. I don't know whether to feel inadequate, old, stupid, or a victim of the comprehensive system!!!!

Anyone who behaves in an un-sporting way should be required to explain themselves to the chair of the jury and apologise. Failure to do either is disqualification. The jury chair should also report the incident to the slalom committee who should have the power to further ban competitors for a perio...

My son did a double event this weekend and the entry fee was £15.25. My daughter will compete in her sport this coming weekend and her entry fee is £80. Both do around 10 competitions a year. Therefore, from where I'm sat, slalom is a very "cheap" sport, particularly as canoes are low-maintenance. ...

"If you want it extending to say 30 mins then bear in mind we will all end up sat on the bank for 30 mins before we can go for lunch or take down a course." Time to review "protest time" in this respect. One thing worse than a long spell of watching paddlers on a cold, wet day is sitting in the sam...

To answer the question - yes I'd happily pay more for a double event vice travelling for 2 singles. Simple economics really given fuel costs.

Brilliant to have strategy work commencing. I wonder though what the aims are for the strategy? A big growth in participation at all levels? A total focus on the production of an elite top end feeding potential Olympic champions? National versus regional events? More events, less events, quality of...

I agree with Duncan. I occasionally do some running events and every competitor is given a personal time via a microchip you wear. There are potentially many technologies that might work, be a lot simpler and require far less human resources. Perhaps the motion should be held over to allow some res...

Quote: "* We can hold doubles: but the more doubles you have within a limited overall number of races, the fewer venues you can use and you don’t get regional spread. * We can combine Prem and Div 1 races in the same weekend event. For Div 1, these are usually the best races anyway! It may be that ...

Given the ever increasing price of fuel (there's another hike in fuel duty in January), VAT increasing to 20% and wages being frozen, I just cannot see me being able to justify the cost for a single day of point collecting. Do any other paddlers or parents look at the calendar and think "that's an ...

£8000 to hire HPP!!!! I remember as a young slalom paddler doing loads of fund raising events to help the slalom community raise their share of the initial costs. I am increasingly concerned that we are now the group being sidelined - just check the notices regarding when gates can be in the main f...

I'm always happy to make suggestions for improvement, I'd assumed constructive criticism (albeit it personal opinion) would facilitate the extrapolation of suggestions for improvement. I think all I indicated was to hold the events on better water and allow people as much water time as is practical.

I competed at Cardington one year and came second (mainly because most of my peer paddlers did not attend). I decided not to return for the second year primarily for 2 reasons. Firstly, the course was Div 3 standard and, secondly, no practise was allowed, thus entailing I'd travelled a long way for...
