Re: Rolling Rankings

I've had a look at the rolling rankings - thanks for the work involved ( Nick Penfold, Bob the Builder & anyone else). I think they do provide a better view of overall standings and are worth sticking with provided there's not a lot of extra effort involved. I'd be against any suggestion of allocati...

Not close enough for me to see, but Environment Agency website suggests river level just above 'normal' range...

Re: Paddling Up

Dee, seems our views are the same - that's reassuring! NeilH - hope your question answered? If 2 divisions racing on SAME course, paddler enters lower and can retrospectively claim paddle up 'point' in higher. Two bites at cherry. If only 1 division racing or (2 on different courses), paddlers must ...

Re: Paddling Up

I thought paddling up was clear. However, at Bala Mill, K1W Div 2, 6th May, there were 23 ranked starters. One paddler-up achieved a score better than 9 of them. However, 40% of 23 is 9.2. I was asked the question whether she could claim a 'paddle-up point'; i.e. whether there was rounding involved....

Re: Bala Mill - Div 2/3 Paddling Up

I agree with you, Dee. While it doesn't seem 'right'; given that there are 2 different courses on this occasion, I think the rules (at least as I understand them) would allow for this, provided the person entered both competitions. Generally dual division races use the same course, in which case thi...

Re: Paddling Up

Les, I'm pleased to say I entirely agree with your comments.
The system has been running for a few races now & broadly appears to be working okay I think.
From paddlers' perspective, I understand at least 1 K1M & 1 K1W have gained promotion from Div 3 already; so no doubt they think its working.

Re: Should all categories be related to K1M times?

What an interesting thought! So is the suggestion that a division with (say) 5 faster & 5 slower paddlers would have the points allocated according to their scores (like 1000,980,960,950,925,425,400,200,180,40) rather than 1000,900,800,700 etc. ? I think this would change the approach of many paddle...

Re: Paddling Up

Good straightforward explanation of paddling up now on main Slalom UK website http://www.canoeslalom.co.uk/info/paddling_up.htm Thanks Nick. Meantime 'identical bib numbers' is going to be a little headache for organisers - it happened again at the Cardiff Prem. "Extra care & vigilance" is all very ...

Re: Paddling Up

So far, the arrangement seems to be working (I think). I appreciate its extra work for organisers, especially if entries aren't clear! Am I right in believing that individual paddlers need to keep aware of whether they achieve 3 scores sufficient to claim promotion, and then request promotion from t...

Shame, but really appreciate the early decision, thanks Dee.
Things like this add to the strees levels, don't they?

Re: Paddling Up

Thanks for comments. Early stages yet, but a couple of helpful pointers. I was thinking separate categories for those paddling up as duplicate bib numbers are a real possibility. I can see how pre-race admin. becomes more complex! There were a small number of paddlers up at Tryweryn; they were alloc...

Paddling Up

I've been asked questions about the 'Paddling Up' trial; and looked at p58 in the handbook. My interpretation for a paddler in Div 3 (for example) is: If the race is Div 2 (or Div 1/2). They may enter (& pay the higher fee). They'll be excluded from ranking points. Provided the relevant div 2 class ...

The legacy course was a challenge for D2, while D3 was carnage last time - so why not give us another go?
