Another idea: Would it be possible for the BCU to obtain sets of kit for absolute beginners to use, that can be taken to designated 'come and try it' div 4 events. And advertising in the local area to be introduced. Or would it simply be possible for the BCU/slalom committee to organise 'come and t...

My concern is that no matter how much TV/media coverage the 'elite' level of the sport gets, it does not make it any easier for people to get involved. While yes I would agree that this is important, it only captures attention, rather than increasing participation. Would it not make sense to incres...

Hi All, I would like to go abroad this summer in order to improve my skills and train on some bigger white water. However, I do not have a group of people to go with, and obviously cannot paddle abroad alone. Are there any groups, or does anyone know of any groups that would have space, or be willi...

Lettmann Ergonom Pros for me 204cm 52 degree feather, cranked. Strongest paddles on the market, but heavy, and lack 'feeling'. Monocoque construction (continuous blade/shaft) for extra stiffness and strenth. The straight version is called 'Profile' Have used: GPower Twisters, 202cm, 52 degree feath...

This is what I suspect has happened: the paddler finds himself capsizing, and his reaction is to go for a high brace support. Although he has been taught to keep the shaft below the shoulder, because he was caught unawares he was not in the brace position, and by the time he reacts he is already a ...

Regarding the evidence for Mr Balyi's LTAD.....where is it? There is a dearth of academic, peer reviewed research which validates the success of such a program across all sports. Correct me if I'm wrong but the model was based on an 8 year plan for Alpine skiers. However, countless sports have read...

1) My impression is that most shoulder-injuries in Slalom (unlike, perhaps, in sprint canoeing) are traumatic rather than repetitive strain injuries. Therefore training in this respect must focus on readying the body to meet violent shocks. I think quite a few shloulder injuries may be due to repet...

I would say the bank based coaches do have to be assessed on technique! If if they are not doing it them selves, they will have to teach it, I would have thought that knowing how to do the techniques you're teaching is nessesary! Bank based coaches are assessed on their ability to coach the correct...
