Re: Restructuring the divisions
Why would 80% walk away? Sport is not only about attainment it should be about development too. - if we are sending out messages that attainment is everything then I believe we loose something valuable in sport. I gave up C1w when I was demoted to Div2 as I had no interest in paddling Div2 courses....

Re: Newly-Promoted Paddlers
If the event is full then you are NOT required to accept further entries even if they are from recent promotes. However, if the event is not full after the deadline then recent promotes will get priority for the available spaces. When I closed entries for an event I did not run a waiting list but in...

Re: HPP 1/2 7th & 8th May
I would agree Duncan. That and the logistics of a club ring to run an event in a completely different country! Though I know Manchester have succeeded before!

Re: Looking After Each Other
My ideal solution? Parents getting involved to help in the sport whether by becoming qualified judges/ rescue/ timing/ organisers. There are some amazing parents out there that do some or all of the above but there are far more that do nothing. If I were a parent that had a child taking part in a sp...

Re: Looking After Each Other
A wee rant :D Slalom Canoeing is an assumed risk sport. Happily it is rare for serious acidents to happen, but when they do they can be catastrophic. So to me it makes total sense to ensure that if you are a paddler or a parent of a paddler you make sure that you/your offspring has the proper train...

Re: Looking After Each Other
If people were at least given a DSQ-R then a pattern of 'offending' would emerge and the paddlers could be brought to task as they are in polo for repeated 'offences'. We did have the name of a Div 1 K1W on a note on the timing team computers as she was a repeat offender last year and each time she...

Re: Looking After Each Other
The rules do say that if you do not stay on the water then you WILL be disqualified (it used to be "may" but was changed at the ACM a few years ago. The issue is that a) I have never known a jury to actually disqualify anyone on their first offence and b) if someone has had a bad run they don't care...

Re: Tully Paddle Ups - Second Class Paddlers...
One hopes ringorayner post is in jest, I have yet to go to a race, across all divisions where the organiser has not asked for help on the day. If anyone is willing to judge at a race, paddler or parent, it only takes a minute to go to race control and ask if any help is needed - never assume the ra...

Re: Tully Paddle Ups - Second Class Paddlers...
I At premier (and Div 1 events) events, you would prefer not to use the prem paddlers to help during the day with the race so they can focus on their own races. Why should the Prem paddlers be an exception? I certainly did not exempt them from judging when I ran events. Every paddlers race is impor...

Re: Tully Paddle Ups - Second Class Paddlers...
I think this is a mountain out of a molehill situation. The rules allow for the organisers to require paddlers to assist. How they determine who those paddlers are is up to them (provided it is not discriminatory). The Welsh require the Welsh paddlers and parents to be first in line for volunteering...

Re: Post-dated cheques!
So aside from the issue of making sure cheques are going to be valid when banked, I have another question... If I enter a multi division event at the lower division, and get promoted before the event, is it normally possible to transfer the entry to the higher division (and pay the fee difference),...

Re: Opening dates for entries -Personal Discussion thread
Now that there are rules that allow for enhanced entry fees would it be doable to re-introduce Div 2 events to venues such as the Trywerwyn/ Tees/ other difficult places that existed long before I got involved in the sport? Dee - fortunately for us oldies we can now claim VET and still race on the b...

Re: Opening dates for entries -Personal Discussion thread
The problem is that division 1 is too big, and if we solve that we won't have to complicate things further. So promote some, demote others, get rid of paddle up (what a dreadful idea, why did it ever get through), slow down promotion in C1W and C2. Anything else? Put more div 2 events on water that...
