Unless the youngsters of today are trained in white water awareness and technique rather than just slalom this will continue to be the case. Clubs should be teaching general paddling skills not just slalom! A number of issues here: - More choice, as mikey says - increase in general river running / ...

... the young speedy ones powering down behind them only then to get whistled off? It's not as bad as that. if you paddle in ability order the difference between two consecutive paddlers is slight. I don't know what division you have in mind but in my experience, for the lower divisions, particular...

I'm trying to get on a slalom competition coaching course. Actually I've been trying since March 2005! I've contacted a number of people in slalom but I've got nowhere. I'm at a loss as to what to do next. Last summer I ran slalom coaching sessions on our club nights and will be doing the same agai...

I'm with you now. That's the type of seat I've got. although I've cut it down quite a bit at the back. particularly in the middle, so it doesn't rub the boney bits. So it looks much like an old seat now. I must add that the footrest position is quite critical (certainly with this cut-down seat) so ...

:( So why should the club organising the event bear the full financial burdon of this? At least the previous rule split the cost between slalom committee funds and club funds. Might be happier if there was no admin fee on any entry of this type. This will only work if there is only a levy on the or...

I've just bought a boat where it's v difficult to get out of due to long legs and foam block. So I'm about to remove the foam. Maybe I'll put an air bag in the front instead, but where? Or maybe a milk carton. Am I more concerned about my boat being rescued or me getting out? All hypothetical becau...

Yep, small kids can sit at the end of a race, but there is no way you can expect them to effectively rescue a water laden boat, or person 2/3/4 stone heavy then them. Sorry to drag this out. At our slalom it's flat at the finish. We still expect the two finishers to stay there. That's OK. But below...
