Re: Symonds Yat Div 2/3 16th and 17th March

Hi Mike,

We haven't done the Usk for years so would be interested in getting out for a paddle on Saturday if you're arranging something. We're staying in the Forest View Guest House in Symonds Yat East.

Cheers,
James

Re: Washburn releases

Thanks for the update Les. Sounds like things are not nearly as bad as I'd feared. Fingers crossed for some good Washburn slaloms this season.

Washburn releases

Hi all, Does anyone out there have any information on the current state of Thurcross Reservoir? At the moment there is no sign of a Washburn release calendar for this year on the Yorcie web site, which makes me think that the water level in the reservoir must still be low, which doesn't bode well fo...

Re: Symonds Yat Div 2/3 16th and 17th March

Thanks for the clarification Mitch. We will be parked in our accommodation's car park on the Saturday, so no issue on that day and will try and avoid parking in the canoe shop car park on Sunday unless breakfast/practice run timings make it unavoidable for us.

Re: Symonds Yat Div 2/3 16th and 17th March

If that is the attitude of local businesses to slalomists, then I find it a tad insulting. I've been coming to the Symonds Yat slaloms pretty much since they reappeared on the calendar, staying in local B&B accommodation and eating and drinking in the local hostelries in Symonds Yat East. I would es...

Re: Symonds Yat Div 2/3 16th and 17th March

Hi Rob & Mitch, For those of us staying in accommodation in Symonds Yat East, it's going to be much more convenient to launch from the usual car park by the canoe shop and paddle down to start from there, rather than drive all the way around to the West side (and more environmentally friendly). I as...

Re: Stolen paddles

An update on this. All four paddles have been spotted on eBay (and the paddle bags) and the police have been informed. Thanks to Nick for putting a copy of my post on the canoe slalom web site landing page and Chris Woods for spotting the paddles on eBay.

Stolen paddles

Unfortunately our garage was broken into today and the following were stolen: A set of Galasport Carbon Elite slalom paddles - left handed with black blades and shaft, with yellow electrical tape at joints of blades and shaft A set of Nomad slalom paddles - right-handed with black blades and black c...

Re: Washburn Div 2 Cancelled

I think Jim was intending to do the Saturday at the Washburn and Sunday at Lee Valley, while I was intending to do a 500 mile round trip from London to do the Washburn! Aren't slalomers strange? I'm now booked in for Lee Valley.

Re: Ironbridge Div2

Can I second that. Great weekend - two really good courses, which unfortunately I didn't really do justice to, a really relaxed atmosphere, and wall to wall sunshine to boot.

Thanks to the organisers and all the volunteers.

Re: Symonds Yat

Hi Mike,

Happy to bring down my plastic boat and help out with safety, just as long as I get time to get my own runs in!

Re: 6.1 ACM Voting

It's actually a reason for moving to 1 paddler 1 vote. The problem with the current system is it open to abuse due to its lack of transparency. No one knows if those attending the ACM have in fact consulted their membership and are voting according to their wishes. While one hopes that they do there...

Re: 6.1 ACM Voting

[quote="Nick Penfold"]Iand lack of engagement/apathy would make for a system that's wide open to exploitation by small but active lobby groups. And the current system isn't? It also effectively disenfranchises all independent paddlers and those who don't paddle with slalom registered clubs. It's ant...

Re: Ranking and Promotion

I really ought to re-read my submissions before I hit the Submit button!

The last sentence should read that I know of no other sport in which a divisional system is used that has more promotees than demotees.

Re: Ranking and Promotion

Couple of years ago the current P/1 bubble/over capacity was in div 2 with events full weeks before and everyone chasing around for places, this happened for a couple of years until the bubble moved up, simply demoting will recreate this issue. Sorry, but I've been in div 2 for the past 10 years an...
