Wark (Tynedale) div 2/3/open 4/5/April

Wark sports club have again let us use their facilities for the event - the large indoor seating area was very popular last year and several people told me to mention the quiet onsite bar! This section of river must be one of the prettiest used for slalom - particularly in April with all the daffodi...

Re: Tutty - just thoughts on the future

MikeR - WiFi range is really not difficult to achieve - using suitable equipment. Its no good to expect a normal domestic grade access point or router with a cheap antenna to perform wonders. Oh.. and Tochscreens in the wet - have you ever used a pencil and paper in the rain :( My own outdoor wifi s...

Re: Tynedale Div 2/3

Startlists have been emailed off and should be on the Canoe Slalom website shortly. Trophies have been delivered today, we have a course design, gates etc. and the sports club are laying in food and drinks. Must try to organise some warmth and sunshine next! We don't know how much water will be rele...

Making new gates

While we have been offered a loan of extra poles for the forthcoming Tynedale div 2/3, we are looking to make up our stock to have adequate numbers of gates. Number boards seem straightforward - an 8' x 4' sheet of plywood cut at the builders merchants into 32 1 sq foot pieces and each painted white...

Re: Tynedale Div 2/3

Hi All Thanks to all those who have already entered - I'm aiming to get a provisional start list done for Friday (4th April), but still have plenty of spaces for entries, so please get them in asap. No late fees for anyone entering the Open (entry fees are £6.00 single or £8.50 double - as on page 1...

Re: Tutty - just thoughts on the future

As Mummsie says, any replacement needs to be easy to use - my suggestion could have an interface as easy to use as Simply Slalom. The only remotely difficult bit could be in the Wi-Fi setup when using repeaters - still not exactly hard (and probably not needed at all events). I suspect that even mos...

Re: Tutty - just thoughts on the future

Just had a thought while walking the dog - obviously my forthcoming duties for the Tynedale slalom running through my head (how do we get enough volunteers for the murky depths of control)? Nowadays most people walk around with a powerful web-enabled computer in their pocket, with Wi-Fi internet acc...

Re: Encouraging C1 Women

At the outset, I suspect that for most C1 is a secondary discipline - slalom C1s may be available in some clubs, but most start paddling in an open canoe or a kayak. I suspect that few with a preference for open canoe cross over into slalom, so most start out in a K1. So why do a smaller proportion ...

Re: publication of start lists

It is the work of a moment to hide the start times produced by simply slalom if you just want to create an entry list. My concern is the need to email Nick with every revision of the list to get him to upload it. Some way for organisers to directly upload entry lists, start lists and results would b...

Re: Tynedale Div 2/3

As a comparison of water conditions with Fairnilee and Abbey, I would say that the hardest bits at Wark are probably a bit easier, but the easiest bits are a bit harder - more consistent I suppose. Does that make sense?

Re: Tynedale Div 2/3

Hi Davie, The Tynedale div 2/3 is at a new venue - on the North Tyne at the village of Wark. The event will be based at Wark Sports Club and there will be camping and (limited) spaces for caravans and motorhomes onsite - price to be confirmed). There are numerous B&Bs around and there is a Youth Hos...

Re: C1/C2 Thigh straps

For a really cheap solution ... Quick release plastic diving buckles (around £2 per pair on ebay) 50mm webbing (around 50p per metre) Plastic three bar ladder clips (around 10p each if buying 10 or more) Should be possible to make straps up for around £5 per pair - particularly if you are making a f...

Howsham "Fill Your Tum Tent" cruelty?

I hope that no poor, harmless pastas were hurt in the creation of the "pasta's bowels" (see Howsham Info sheet - food section for more info)!

Re: West Tanfield "Good Practice"

Can I second Happychappy's views. As with our own Tyne Valley event the previous week, this one could so easily have been cancelled due to high river levels - but was much better than usual as a result of the extra water. Perhaps it could have demoralised (or terrified) some newcomers in div 4, thou...

Re: The Structure of Slalom

The proposal feels like a step too far to me. It addresses some of the problems but throws out too much of what we have. One of the main problems I have found since my daughter and I started in slalom is that of inquorate classes - particularly in womens K1. The comparison with the K1 mens time may ...
