6.7 Rank All Divisions/Classes Based On The Best 5 Results

Post by Canadian Paddler » Fri Nov 14, 2014 10:16 pm

Standardising across the divisions on five results will require better finishes and higher points to be achieved to gain promotion.
It is intended that the threshold be increased proportionately with minor rounding to fifty points. Note that the rule changes below will be affected by the motion above. (Page 58)

B4.3.2 All Kayak Classes:
Division 3 to Division 2: on gaining 3300 4150 points from the best four five events or a combination of maximum points or achieving the ‘paddle up standard’ at three events.
Division 2 to Division 1: on gaining 3600 4500 points from the best four five events or a combination of maximum points or achieving the ‘paddle up standard’ at three events.
Division 1 to Premier: on gaining 4750 points from the best five events or a combination of maximum points or achieving the ‘paddle up standard’ at three events.
B4.3.3 Canadian Men Singles

Best five results, in Premier, Division 1 and Division P/1
• Best four results in Divisions 2, 3 and 2/3

• Division 4 competitors are not ranked.
In the event of a tie, refer to Rules A6 (Championship Tie break) or B3.2 (Ranking Tie Break).
(Page 58)
B5.5.1 Division 2/Division 3
Ranking positions at the end of the season are calculated on the best four five results obtained in any Ranking Competitions in the season, at the divisional level declared by the Veteran or higher up to and including Division 2

Subject to Motion 6.6 this will need an amendment to allow for splitting C1W at Div 1/Prem, should you publish an alternate amendment to be taken in the event 6.6 is successful and hence Proxy Votes may be valid.

As 6.6 and 6.7 are inter related and affect the same rules which ever is first may have an affect in the second.

If 6.6 is passed B4.3.3 will refer to Canadian Singles, B43..4 will have been removed, and B4.3.6 will have been renumbered before we get here. The rule changes will then be amended to reflect the motion.

The purpose of the motion will remain unchanged.

Two quick points:
1. Kayak promotion from D3 to D2 will require an average of 830 points rather than the 825 now; and C2 D2/3 to Prem/1 will require 670 average rather than 662.5. All other classes and divisions appear unchanged. Was this specifically considered in setting out the proposals?
2. The syntax of the wording
from the best five events or a combination of maximum points or achieving the ‘paddle up standard’ at three events.
suggests 3 different, separate ways of achieving promotion. In reality, the 2nd & 3rd can be combined; so would it help make things clearer if the 2nd "or" were changed to "and"?
Just thinking.........

Hiding to nothing here. If we extended the motion to ' "a combination of maximum points and achieving the ‘paddle up standard’ at three events", someone would read this that you have to win AND beat 40% of the division above. So winning three div 3 events at division 3/4 events would not count (you did not get the paddle up standard).

If the motion relating to paddle up = 1,000 points is upheld, then the "achieving the ‘paddle up standard’" could be removed completely.
