For kayaking in the UK (cold) climate I would want:
Colour: Don't mind too much as long as its not too bright, my present cags are all blue.
Sleeves: Long for most of the year (short sleeves or no cag in summer)
Wrists: Latex only for long sleeve slalom cags, (twin seals neoprene over latex for river running playboating) and neoprene only on shorty cags
Neck: Neoprene only for slalom cags and shorty river/play cags, twin seal neoprene/ latex for long sleeved river/play cags
Waist: I prefer sewn in decks on all cags
Fabric: Lightweight for slalom, breathable prefered but expensive/ difficult to keep truly waterproof. Slightly heavier fabrics on river/play cags to give more protection and longevity.
Hood: No hood, never ever.
Pockets: None (bouyancy aid is worn over cag so you can't get stuff into the pockets)
Cost: £100+ is reasonable for a well made, quality cagdeck

1) Anything not dayglo, probably dark if pushed
2) Long Winter/whimpy sleeve, short or none for summer
3) latex long, neoprene short - although my current short sleeve (made 1980) has elasticated cuffs - who me? mean? or just do not use it often
4) Neprene for heavy duty, velcro for light
5) single layer neoprene - or cagdeck
6) neoprene or cagdeck
7) prefer it now (ols and sweaty) but keep any long enough and they get breathable (see 3)
No WAY
9) Yes for slalom, no for playing
10) No, as Dave says, cant get to them under the bouyancy aid anyway
11)£60-£70

Biggest problem is I have and use a range of cags subject to weather style and type of paddling. however in keeping with the rest:
1/ Colour - varies have both light and dark - depends on what is available and best offer. Generally prefer darker as it does not mark or discolour with age
2/ Long - winter/bad weather
Short - summer/hot weather
3/ Lightweight cag - neoprene
Heavy weight winter cag - latex & neoprene
4/ Lightweight cag - neoprene
Heavy weight winter cag - latex
5/ Lightweight cag - single layer
Heavy weight winter cag - dual layer
6/ Lightweight cag - elastic cord or neoprene
Heavy weight winter cag - both neoprene
(own and paddle too many different boats to contemplate cag-decks)
7/ Not really never found it that effective when you get into white water
8/ NO (unless it zips up the front and I am hillwalking)
9/ NO range fo fabrics to suit conditions and situation
10/ NO (unless it zips up the front and I am hillwalking)
11/ Short sleeve - £30-60
Long Sleeve - £60-£100+ subject to weight
12/Variation to #10, if you could fit a small dry-sealed pocket that could take a car key that could be a bonus. Only really need access at start and end of paddle
Sadly KOGG is no more !

Hi Clare, good luck with your project. I have several cags, long sleeve, short sleeve, neoprene, latex, different ones for different things, all of them old. The ones I wear for slalom have neoprene cuffs which can let the water in a bit, but it doesn't matter cos I'm doing slaloms on gentle rivers, so getting wet is less likely than getting too hot. To answer your questions, I'm imagining what if I suddenly improved at slalom, what cag might I buy, if I was going to be on more rufty tufty water.
1. Which sort of colours do you prefer?
Bright (because I am a fashion victim) I would buy dayglo or shiny fabric like tinfoil if they made it.
2.Which sort of sleeve do you prefer?

latex
4.Which sort of neck do you prefer?
latex
5. Which sort of waist do you prefer?

6. Which sort of style waist do you prefer?

7.Does your cag have to be made from breathable fabric?
No.
8. Would you want a hood on your cag?
No, I wouldn't at all
9. Is the fabric being lightweight important to you?
yes. lightweight would feel nicer and look posher
10. Do you require pockets in your cag?
No - if there did happen to be a pocket, I'd want it to fit in with the style of the cag
11. How much are you prepared to pay for a cag?
£90-£100
12. Any other comments?
good luck with your project Clare!
