Rules over the years....

Post by ve paddles » Mon Apr 23, 2012 9:07 am

Hello,

As some of you will know I am writing up a PhD in 'How kayak form affects performance for Canoe Slalom'

I have been looking into the history of our sport and I am missing a few dates of rule changes and I wonder if anyone can be of assistance?

What year did the minimum weight rule get introduced?

What year did the 20 second touch get removed?

What year did the reverse gate get removed?

What year did the minimum end radius rule appear?

What year did the pole heights rise from 2 inches to 20cm's?

Thank you in advance.

Stu

Minimum weights, removing reverse gates and end radii were added into the rules in 1985 ready for the 1986 season.

20 sec penalties were removed sometime before 1981 (my first season), and pole heights changed from 15cm to 20cm in 2008

Cheers

Hi Stu,

My grandad told me that when he started slalom in 1977 there was no 20 second penalty for an outside touch, but the older members in the club we still talking about the rule and how its removal was de-skilling the sport and would evantually lead to the collapse of civilisation as we now it.
