Pan Celtic 2018

Post by JimW » Sun Oct 21, 2018 7:56 pm

Great to see the 2018 Pan celtic results online.

Thanks to Gareth, Alix and everyone else at Llandysul paddlers who picked up the Welsh junior and vets leg after the Tryweryn race was cancelled. Such a shame to see the devastation a week later!

Looking at the results table for the Welsh leg, it would appear that no Scottish C1M veteran (master) scored, but I was definitely there and I remember racing in C1 and getting a result! I'm not entirely sure I have understood the scoring, but it seems that Scotland should have taken PC second place in C1M (masters/vets) and are possibly missing 4 points, which if all other results are accurate, would make the Welsh leg a draw (but no change to the final result)?

Love it Jim, people like you keep me paddling. Shame I have to paddle for England and not Wales. But then England have the best Rugby team.

Mike - people like you inspire me to keep trying to get better!

We had the Scottish slalom ACM last night and keeping the Pan Celtic alive was one of the things we discussed - we have a new team manager for next year and will be trying to drum up more support. I think it is encouraging how close the reaults are between England,Scotland and Wales given the size of the paddling population in each!

Jim - Each nation only counts their best 13 places in each PCC leg (that is the 2 races that make up each home nation leg).
Adding your C1M in would change the Scottish scoring places to 8 x 1st & 5 x 2nd (instead of 8 x 1st, 4 x 2nd and 1 x 3rd) so while 4 points would be added for the extra second place, this would replace the 3 points for a 3rd place. So the increase in the total for Scotland for that leg would only be 1 point, giving Scotland a total of 60 points for that leg.

Thanks Les, I suspected it was not as straight forward as it appeared!

Are the Pan-Celtic rules/scoring written down anywhere?
