Racing in 2021 – position at 9th March 2021

At the slalom committee meeting on 9 March, and in line with the respective governments’ plans for coming out of lockdown, the committee has made the decision that no ranking races will take place before the 17th May.

From the 17th May, the position looks more positive. Where local and national rules and restrictions permit, Open and div 3/4 races may be able to go ahead in England on a local basis. The position in Wales and Scotland is still to be clarified.

From the 21st June, based on the current roadmap, and assuming that the easing of lockdown is not pushed back, other ranking races can be considered (see also section below). It is likely that this will initially be div 2,3,4 races. Participants will need to comply with both the restrictions in the area where they reside as well as at the event – the most restrictive will apply.

Prem / div 1 racing
Div 1 and Prem races will restart once the vast majority of paddlers are able to participate from across the UK i.e. including all the home nations. At the present time there is no indication of when this may be possible but will not be before 21 June. As previously mentioned, participants will need to comply with both the restrictions in the area where they reside as well as at the event – the most restrictive will apply.

Organisers who already have events in the calendar will have the support of the Slalom Committee should they decide to withdraw the race or to go ahead.

Should races go ahead organisers should note that risk management plans would need to be resubmitted taking into account the organisation in light of Pandemic restrictions. Thought needs to be given to ensuring planned financial viability.

In the meantime contact and support is available from Peter Curry and Andy Grudzinski.
