Don't have a yearbook to hand at the moment, but I was wondering if the points needed for promotion to div 1 had changed recently. I was sure it was 2750 from the best 3 results, but judging from the ranking lists, it looks like people are being promoted with 2700 or over?

Anybody know what the limit is?

Thanks,

- Iain

Iain

It was reduced to 2700 a couple of years ago.

There are discussions going on at the moment to review the promotion levels and the size of the divisions.

It could therefore change again for 2007.

If there are going to be changes to promotion and the number of points needed to stay in a division, then hopefully this will be published asap so the paddlers are aware of the goal posts.

From the tables it does look as though some without two wins and still just short of 275(Women)/2750(Men) have been promoted. Maybe some slalom results, or ammending of points by ranking compilers, are not included.

Sorry I mixed up the points as well. the site page on What? How? has 275 and 2750.

Still need to know what the goal posts will be at the end of the season.

Hi Chauffeur

Good spot.

Much of the detail in the What? How? section on Nick Penfold's site was written a while ago. For instance, the entry fees quoted for Div 4 are the 2002 fees. I'll drop Nick a line to see if he can bring this section up to date.

The points target for promotion to Div. 1 was reduced to 2700 for K1M and 270 for K1W (Canadian classes were unchanged) at the 2002 AGM.

The preamble to the AGM motion mentioned that "The 2002 season although showing a small increase in participatoion from previous years, still leaves division 2 paddlers with a shortfall of promotion to division 1." (Remember that the original points totals of 2750/275 replaced the previous 1 in 40 of paddlers being promoted automatically at every event).

Don't worry.

No changes to the existing rules would be made by the Slalom Committee unless they had first been approved by the Annual Consultative Meeting in November. If any proposals do come forward, there will be ample opportunity to discuss them beforehand.
