I'm 70kg and about to choose a new boat. Any advice about how the Sting 350, Toreto, and Slingshot 353 compare would be very welcome.

I'd like a boat I can initiate pivot turns with a forward sweep, more easily than with my scimitar. My priority is to have fun, and try to copy some of the upstream techniques on the bcu slalom dvd.
:p

speak to steve hesford about the small sting demo (its supposed to be cut for 55 but it will fit u as it fits me at 70kg aswel) or likewise speak with dave radmore about the toreto demo (cut for 60kg but ive ordered 1 for 63kg) im sure both would be willing to help as it is overall personal preference!!!

sorry but not to sure on the slingshot... :(

hope this helps!

Thanks for the advice, I'll try both boats, and hopefully soon I won't feel like I need 100% oxygen after cranking a couple of pivot turns. :D

You can get as much advice as you want but remember, the boat that suits you will not always suit other people, boats are as individual to the paddler as the paddler is themselves. Get yourself in as many demo boats as you can and if you like it buy it. I no longer have any axe to grind with any boat type, but the best advice I can give you is paddle the boat and look at the quality of the build, if you are happy, buy it.

Thanks for the advice. I'll demo as much as poss at the last Stone race.

Thanks for the offer Mark but I'm planning to demo the boats I mentioned and fit the seat where it suits me best.

I like the idea of going for a low volume boat. It should be a lot more fun even if I don't go any faster.

There will be the demo CS Canoe Chemical at Shepperton if you are down that way for the event in March, that is cut for an up to 70Kg paddler. More info HERE
