Please help Viking Kayak Club make Bedford River Valley Park a major centre for canoeing! (Deadline 9th March)

This affects the area around Cardington Slalom course and if we can get our views heard strongly enough - especially from you people who will travel to the park then there may be the opportunity for develompent of the facility! It also includes an Olympic standard rowing lake which as yet they have no plans to accomodate canoeing on! At the end of this is a link to a survey page which only takes about 30 seconds to fill out so please do so.

You may not have heard about it yet but Bedford River Valley Park (BRVP) will be a huge new country park bordering the River Great Ouse, all the way from Bedford town centre to the other side of Willington. It will be the largest floodplain restoration project in the UK (over 6 times the size of Hyde Park in London) and will be home to the Cardington Artificial Slalom Course and the proposed Willington Rowing Lake. It therefore represents a unique opportunity for river recreation in Bedford and for people interested in canoeing and kayaking, but only if we tell BRVP that’s what we want!!

Viking Kayak Club fully supports the creation of the park but we think that the River Valley Park should be a major centre for Canoeing and Kayaking recreation and competition, from canoe hire and river touring to national sporting events. Unfortunately, the draft Master Plans have virtually no mention of paddling, so we need your help!

We hope you agree with us and want to tell the planners that you want:

· to see BRVP as a major centre for Canoeing and Kayaking recreation and competition

· and that you support the Viking Kayak Club proposal.

If so, please send your views to BRVP at the link below. Your views are very important as BRVP will count all the responses from different groups and funding may be based on this. Act now and send your views to Guy Lambourne at the BRVP planning team. They have an automatic (one page) response form BRVP survey form

Alternatively, contact Guy directly at guy.lambourne@marstonvale.org, call him at the Marston Vale Forest Centre on 01234 762606 or write to Guy Lambourne, BRVP, Forest Centre, Station Road, Marston Moretaine, Beds, MK43 0PR. (Organisations that support our submission should write to BRVP telling them how many people you represent. Also, please let us know that you support our submission.)

Full details of VKC's proposals can be found on their new Website: VKC website[/B]

Thank you to everyone who completed a form or sent an email, lets hope we have persuaded the powers that we count and hopefully we can get facilities improved for all of us to use.
