Prudhoe

Post by Nicky » Mon Sep 24, 2012 1:12 am

Just a quick one to let the organising team from Hexham and tvcc that their efforts were greatly appreciated this weekend and the tigers loved it! It's great to see a new event appear on the calendar and even better that it has inspired another northern club to have a go next year...

Thanks again, and hope you've enjoyed your first night of freedom! ;)

Thanks to everyone who helped or took part in the event. Results are posted online, but lots of admin still to complete.

After heavy rain in the middle of Thursday night the Tyne was unexpectedly high for setting up the course on Friday - sorry we couldn't have it set up for practice as soon as we hoped. The river is quite wide and getting ropes across to hang gates required a lot of work (and frayed tempers)!

Despite falling all weekend, the river remained high even for Sunday's runs. Chloe Glendenning set an excellent course for Saturday which worked well even in the changing conditions and remained the basis for what Zac and Nicky set on Sunday. Levels were perhaps a bit challenging for div 4s and some of the less experienced div 3s with a lot of 50s and a few capsizes - well worthy of its div 3/4 ranking rather than its recent div 4 only status!

Perhaps the number of cancelled events at this level contributed to the distance some travelled - thankfully the family travelling from Aberdeen took home a win (and promotion) on Saturday - congratulations Gregor!

I concur with Nicky, great event run by dedicated volenteers. Lower Wharf paddlers enjoyed themselves and we will deafinatley be bringing div 3&4 paddlers next year.

Well done everyone, your perseverince in getting up the course despite the challenges of flood water is greatly appreciated by all that attended.

Paddle hard, keep it clean.
