Tryweryn Premier/ One slalom

Post by richardlee » Thu May 02, 2013 9:27 am

Just a quick heads up regarding the Tryweryn Premier/ One slalom, to be held on the chapel falls section of the river on June 1/2 - a detailed information sheet will be put together soon, but in the meantime, here are the main points.

Premier race entries close on Monday, 20th May.

Division one entries close on Friday, 24th May

We are trying to avoid having paddlers judge (although it used to be an accepted part of the race entry deal back in the 80s), however with the number of racers expected, it is likely this may be the case. In order to address this we have asked home nations to provide some judges for the Saturday race, while we may ask any paddlers, whose entry is either received after Friday 17th May (ie the two week closing date for entries) or received without payment (ie an email entry without payment back up) to judge. Failing this we may have to construct a rota from all entries over both days.

The water release is managed by the Environment Agency and will be confirmed on the Wednesday or Thursday before the race. You can check water information on 01678 520826. Please ring before travelling

Race course will be set on Friday and, pending a water release, will be available for free practice on Friday only. The race will start below the raft egress and finish just above Tyn Cornel campsite (egress is possible immediately after the finish, or if you are staying on the campsite you can paddle through and egress to your tent

Car parking will be limited on site - so if you are camping on Tyn Cornel which is next to the slalom site, please leave your car there, which will save some money as car parking charges will be levied over the weekend by the centre.

Saturday - timetable to be confirmed, but water should be on at 8.00 am, with division one practice to 9.30 am (no demos as practice is in place). The timetable will be dependent on entries (we are expecting 200 across Premier/One) and number of judges, with a number of options available over the two days Racing to commence at 10.00 am, through to 5.30 pm or so. Water will be off at 6.30 am.

The Premier race on Saturday is qualification for Sunday Semi /Final (Race numbers to be confirmed), which will run alongside the division one slalom.

The individual Pan Celtic race will run on Saturday. A team race will run if there is sufficient water time. Pan Celtic team managers will coordinate the team list, although paddlers will need to ensure that you have entered the individual ranking event.

Sunday race will be 8.00 am start for practice, with racing at 10.00 am - likelihood is that the Premier semi final will be after midday, with the final at the end of Sunday's racing

Email entries to richard.lee65@btinternet.com with a cheque - payable to Canoe Wales slalom committee and entry (if applicable) to Canoe Wales slalom committee, Richard Lee, Maesglas, Frongoch, Bala, Gwynedd, LL23 7NT.

Many thanks

Richard Lee, on behalf of Canoe Wales slalom committee

Tryweryn Premier / One / Pan Celtic slalom

Entries have now closed for this event - if you have posted an entry in the last couple of days - email me on richard.lee65@btinternet.com to make sure that I have received it. Thanks

In order to make sure that we can run the event with a low number of officials entries, there is a change to the published programme, with practice for division one paddlers running to 9.45 am and racing starting at 10.00 am on each day, with the following programme now likely.

Saturday - K1Men (Premier / division one) will race in the morning (back to back runs, about 100 minute between runs) with K1Women, C1Men division 1 and C2 P/1 in the afternoon. Late entry K1 Men and Welsh K1 Men will gate judge in the afternoon - please check the judging rota.

Sunday - K1 Women (Premier and division one) and C1 Men (P/ and division 1) and C1W P/1 will race in the morning (back to back runs, with about 70 mins between runs) with K1Men (division one) in the afternoon. Late entry K1W and C1 and Welsh C1/ K1W will judge in the afternoon.

A full start list will be published early next week

Water release info should be available on Wednesday or Thursday - 01678 520826 or on http://www.ukrafting.co.uk.

Regards

Richard Lee
