Tour de France in Yorkshire - stay at Washburn

Post by lesf » Sun Jun 15, 2014 3:00 pm

Canoe England Yorkshire region are offering paddlers the chance to see the worlds greatest cycling race which is in Yorkshire on 5th & 6th July from either the Washburn or its Ripon site.

The Grand Depart of this year's Tour will see the top cyclists in the world racing from Leeds to Harrogate and York to Sheffield.

Stage 1: This sees the races go from Leeds to Harrogate, so you could use the Washburn as a base and get on your bike to see some of the action. The nearest options are Otley (9 miles) or the finish in Harrogate (10 miles), but keen cyclist could head further afield to see the race up in the Dales, at Skipton or Ripon. Alternatively, the races passes right past our Ripon site on its way through the town.

Stage 2: This takes the race from York toSheffield, bring the the world's best cyclists along the A59 and right past the Washburn. Where the route crosses the river Washburn also marks the start of the first categorised climb of the day, the 'Cote de Blubberhouses', so you could make your way up the hill to see the riders going a little slower!

So we are offering the following:
  • caravan / motorhome pitches at the Washburn for the whole weekend 4-6th July (very limited camping for tents)
  • car parking at Ripon/ on Sat 5th July
Please read the information carefully as road closures for the race etc will affect when you can access either site.
