GRANDTULLY CAMPSITE IMPROVEMENTS

1. Picnic tables
The picnic tables we bought in 2004 have lasted well, but were coming to the end of their life...
We have bought another eight new tables and hope you like them.

2. WiFi
The WiFI network has been improved at Grandtully Campsite.
In August 2015 we installed broadband, with a domestic ADSL router in the office.

There was no time to provide extensive coverage, but many people appreciated online just outside.

This week I have installed another Access Point, and preliminary testing shows we are covering the car park half-way down Lageonan Road.
In the campsite, we were able to stream video on the grass above caravan pitch 11.
It was good weather, and there was nobody else using the network.
We will see how well it works during August Div 1 Slalom, and make further improvement if necessary in due course.

If you use WiFi at Grandtully, I would like to hear from you how you find it.

Oh dear, we are in a bit of a tangle here (re valid membership and insurance).
I agree with CW that (typically) Bibs 'indicate' current membership but I can also see Kelso's point that some lapse mid-season.
If all memberships were renewed from Nov - Feb (i.e. the 'closed' season for slalom) then any Bib issues are erradicated.
It might also make (typically the younger kids) remember their bibs as they'd have to pay the temporary membership or not paddle.
My bibs live in my car!
I fully endorse Kelso's plea for a nationally available (and comprehensive) web-based database that manages this an the other irksome things we have to do as competitors and organisers.
Equally, there are rules to adhere to too.
BTW. When the next yearbook is being prepared (probably about now) is it not possible to integrate the whole set of rules in one section and just identify in the margin if the are ICF or UK rules?
It's always a pain in the derrière flicking from one set to the other with the prospect of confusion etc...

The organising club has insurance for running the event as the club needs to be a member of the governing body to run the event.

But why does the paddler racing need personal insurance i.e. what does the insurance cover? What claims have there been against personal insurance in slalom or any canoeing event in the last 10 -20 years?

All a bit of a mystery to me.

I can see that you need to be a member of your governing body to be allowed to race but I don't see anyone competing attempting to avoid paying membership and racing - yes, sometimes the membership lapses temporarily but this is the exception rather than the rule - too much time is being spent getting bogged down in red tape rather than promoting canoeing.

CAMPSITE INTERNET
Campsite WiFi service...
I am sorry that I had to turn off the campsite guest WiFi network on Friday.
I had spent a complete week installing this to give full WiFi coverage over the site, but it appears that there is some setting which is stopping the system working correctly.
I hope to return to the campsite soon to inspect and rectify.

CAMPSITE MAINTENANCE (My other hat)
I am aware of defective taps and ceiling light in one outside toilet ("Trap1"), but did not have time to replace this.
I am aware of flooring problems which were ordered for repair earlier this year, but have had to be re-scheduled.
and the men's shower cubicle door lock (shower 1).
Garbage - our wheelie bin contractor has changed the day for collection from Fridays to Tuesdays, which is obviously not the best now.
We will try to obtain additional wheelie bins to avoid accumulation of exposed loose rubbish sacks.
If you have noticed something which needs attention, please let me know.
