Re: Improving Canoe Slalom

It was the 'no beard' appeal! Now as to my beard doing C2 or even C1 - would certainly be a much lighter paddler!

Re: Improving Canoe Slalom

Copied from a 2009 posting of mine as I believe it still holds. "I think the idea of video for appeals is a non-starter, for all but the highest levels, purely on the grounds of cost and practicability. Whilst I have no doubt the technology could be/already has been developed, the simple numbers mak...

Ankerdine hasn't been mentioned yet. Kinver ran it in 1999.

Come and try SE Wales first (we believe) slalom venue. This is the second year the event has been held and promises to be much bigger (and better of course) than last year's. We have the rain dances well planned, to top up the river ready for the weekend, but have ordered two gloriously sunny days ...

Though the water was low, the courses set were still interesting and the chute at the end caught many out.

Well done to Nicky and the rest of the Tigers and thanks for an excellent weekend.

The date is fast approching for the first ever (that I know of anyway) event in SE Wales. Event web site: http://www.bridgendcanoeclub.co.uk/Slalom%20home.html There is also a course guide on UK Slalom: http://www.canoeslalom.co.uk/courses/ogmore.htm The event is organised and we are raring to go -...

I saw several calls that were questionable in the looping pool area depending on which sector/gate judges were on duty at the time and how they interpreted the penalties, which is what you would expect from different views, I probably had the best view of the gate in question bearing in mind the we...

I think the idea of video for appeals is a non-starter, for all but the highest levels, purely on the grounds of cost and practicability. Whilst I have no doubt the technology could be/already has been developed, the simple numbers make it all, in terms of cost and manpower, prohibitively expensive...

You obviously miss slalom considerably!

Arithemetic:
Slalom comps last around 6 hours
You get far more paddle strokes than you will get golf strokes

Weather and fellow competitors - just wait!
Golf rules - they too will bite you if you transgress

A problem I have had in the past, especially at Town Falls, is that though there has been free practice for judges, there has been no one else looking to practice. Thus as I would be the only one on the water I have decided against getting on.

I too was surprised to be regarded as veteran when I started (42). I remember suggesting a 'Novice Vets' category be established. If something like the above goes ahead, then how about separating those who have spent years in the sport from those who are recent starters. The criteria could be based...

I have judged at many Prem events and have never been told there was no practice allowed (except when competing in Pan-Celtic events run alongside a Prem as they are then run under Prem rules). The snag can arise where the number of non prems is low as I will not get on the water by myself. I agree...

Number of paddling judges (NUMBERS BELOW) is always lower on the Sunday compared to the Saturday regardless of whether the Prem event is first or second. This yr there were 2 events with div1 on Sat, prem on Sun: Graveyard Sat 52, Sun 19 Tees Sat 42, Sun 14 and 2 in 2006 Tees Sat 28, Sun 18 Trywery...
