Re: Age Categories for the 2020/21 Racing Season

So everyone keeps posting, Keep things simple and then giving lots of options for debate. Everyone sees things differently so what is simple to one leaves gaping holes for another. It was ever this    ... Open Events. I am considering running a series of 2 or 3 Open handicapped event...

Re: Age Categories for the 2020/21 Racing Season

Are football/rugby matches running at local level? I'm not convinced that many competitors would turn up in the current environment. A local race might be doable if costs are low, but there are a lot of things to consider so would anyone be prepared to run it. We've not even met up with close friend...

Re: Age Categories for the 2020/21 Racing Season

The key word in the rule is "organised", not "run". Still ambiguous - for instance a. Race cancelled as no water could be classed as organised as it was cancelled last minute in most cases b. Yet - this year races are not organised as they are cancelled months in advance - no organising required ;)...

Re: Age Categories for the 2020/21 Racing Season

... How many votes at the AGM do clubs get who have run races this year against clubs that haven't had the opportunity to run any races this year... This is a good point, though one which would have equally applied had we kept 2020 as a separate season. At the 2018 ACM, I believe the rules for club...

Re: Age Categories for the 2020/21 Racing Season

There is no easy approach; It is a question of working with the rules, or as close to them as possible. My thoughts are that there were three options Cancel the season an pretend none of the races had taken place - this would mean cancelling any promotions achieved. I don’t think there is anything th...

Re: Age Categories for the 2020/21 Racing Season

Normally Age categories are based on age at 1st Jan and normally a paddler stays in the same age category for the whole season, but normally a season is only one year. We now have a season that spans two years, so should a paddler's age category reset in Jan and thus change mid-season or should it s...

Re: Abandoning the season?....

To be fair I don't think that the committee ever said the season would be abandoned: Following careful consideration of the impact of Covid-19 on the 2020 racing season, the slalom committee has made the decision that no further ranking races will be held in 2020. As a committee, we are still workin...

Re: Abandoning the season?....

What about those that did two events and won both? Where in the rules is this allowed? There are several ways of extrapolating results from those that we have, the trouble is different methods will result in different paddlers benefitting or not, as the case may be. Also whatever we do has to work a...

Re: Abandoning the season?....

Sorry Dee I also disagree with this. No need to be sorry, I don’t entirely agree with myself :D  . I’m just trying to make a point that that what might look like a no brainer could have some unexpected results and decisions or ACM motions need to take these into account I think most people in ...

Re: Abandoning the season?....

Just to remove any doubt here - I am posting as an individual and not, in any way as a member of the committee ... That bit out of the way, if you did bring an ACM motion, I think my main concern would be the unintended consequences. Eg: We get too many promotions too early in the season, substantia...

Hopefully the Slalom Committee will be able to develop some strategies to mitigate these potential impacts.
You do know the slalom committee consists of normal (well normalish) human beings - not a superman cape in existence that I'm aware of. :D

Re: Abandoning the season?....

I believe some plans will be announced shortly, but it is fair to say that this season has been like none other. Hopefully 2021 will be better!
