Re: Coping with Numbers in Div 1

Nick I think if you look back at old year books you will see most races had a limit of 200 paddles, with judges that race was 180 paddlers.

To make the judging situation work at 45 seconds paddlers could be made to judge giving more judges to cover the sections.

Re: Coping with Numbers in Div 1

I have been racing in Div 1 since 1995. My first race was on Bala Mill there were 111 K1 men on the start list and the previous day I raced in a Div 2 at the Graveyard with 130 K1 men so why all of a sudden have we got a problem? We now race courses that are less than two minutes with intervals of o...

Nice one John opening up old wounds. May be its time to rant again, has any progress been made about the possiblity of Div 1 paddlers RACING at the new Olympic Rafting facility or has it been brushed under carpet never to be mentioned again?

Good luck Campbell enjoy the course

This debate is sliding slightly off track and I notice there is a lack of paddlers being as vocal as they where at the weekend. Do you want to paddle on these facilities or not?

Just one comment Lee Valley do not have to add the chemicals for a slalom weekend we are use to paddling at Nottingham.

Great to see I have caused a bit of healthy debate and I may have been a bit harsh in my critiscism of the slalom exec. I do appreciate there are many people who put in alot of hours in for free and the sport would not be here if it was not for there efforts. But as someone who has been racing for ...

I have just looked at the proposed calendar for next year and am disappointed that the Div 1 paddlers are not getting the opportunity to paddle on the new Olympic site or at Cardiff. Then I watched the Helen Reeves video on the Canoe England website and listened to her talking about Legacy. Again t...

Maybe the rules should be change to 4 paddlers on the water which gives the paddlers chance to recover so there is ample safety cover. Waiting 4 to 5 minutes after a run will not do anyone any harm. The people complaining about that it should not be there responsibility to rescue others because the...

This is one area of slalom that makes my blood boil. I have had this argument on many ocassion with fellow competitor usually younger prima donna's. I have also experienced the lack of willingness of juries and organisers to take action. Disqualification of competitors or even banning them are acti...

I think you guys are missing the whole point of the Veteran (purple bib) ranking system. It allows paddlers who have have put there hours in judging and organising over the years still to paddle the courses and races of there choice. I thought we where concerned about driving people away from the s...

John Would the open system stop course designers pushing paddlers to the limits of there abilities by making a course that anyone is capable of competing on? I also agree with Dave promotion must be earned and if you are not good enough your results will find you out. Unfortunately the lower divisi...

Carlr judging by your comments maybe slalom is not the sport for you have tou considered tiddlywinks or maybe stamp collecting. :p . Also the comments the course did not flow are rubbish the course flowed if you where good enough to make it flow (I wasn't). There were some fantastic gate combinatio...

Its time for praise where it is due. I was delighted to see a course designed to test paddlers at the Div 1 slalom at Holme Pierrepont on Sunday. I hope other course designers take note and learn lessons from the challenges set on Sunday. I was not good enough to get a good result but I had fun try...

I have read through what both John and Dave have had to say and feel that the problem with the standard of paddlers coming through is the lack of opportunity to race on decent water. Div 2 races use to be held on the Serpents Tail, Graveyard, Appleteewick, Stangerthwaite, Halton Rapids, River Awe, ...
