Re: C1 Disaster Imminent?

Oddly I've never had any major issues with 50 year old kit in my whole time running Howsham slalom. Yes we've had boxes die, headsets break and even a switch fail on the tutty box but nothing that ever stopped the event. Sorry if teaching any grannies to suck eggs but here is some advice for those t...

Re: C1 Disaster Imminent?

"Perhaps the points system could somehow be tweaked to allow for the difference in size of the classes?" This has been a thought of mine for sometime but for different reasons, a few years ago 13 paddlers raced Tully div 1/2 me included trying to get into div 1, the previous week there had been 70 a...

Catch ups

I believe there is some misunderstanding about the catch up rule, many paddlers do not appear to realise that 10.15.2 states that if they miss gates they must not hinder the paddler in front of them. This is something I have always done as a matter of courtesy by stopping before a judge mistakenly w...

Re: Paddler Retention

PS. Steve Holmes is right Many paddlers over the years have stated they don't want to be promoted and either drop out totally or drop out for a year, many enjoy racing but don't want to challenge themselves further, they might given time but not at the moment. I guess much of that comes from the pus...

Re: Paddler Retention

Every paddler has progressed from div 4 to 3 to 2 to 1 and at many points will have had to put in their best run and achieved little. They will have been challenged many times during those years, the stress of trying to get that final point, the fear of harder courses, bigger water etc etc. They wil...

Ranking Lists

Its September which means as per previous years all those who haven't raced this year disappear off the ranking lists, fear not if they do race they will reappear. For those that haven't realised, if you don't apply for your bib, the bib officer will suspend your ranking, they will also do this if y...

Re: Grandtully Div.2 Rules Clarification Request

The question is what is a change? Moving a gate a few inches can make a difference, we proved this once at Washburn when Les and I moved 3 gates in a stagger a few inches, you couldn't tell unless you'd triangulated each pole, paddlers came past muttering about lack of changes, flew down the course ...

Re: Age discrimination

I'm not sure on the legislation but such things happen throughout life so I'm sure its not illegal. such as:- free buss passes age related discounts travel passes At the other end of the scale To paddle on flat water at the worldcup at Lee Valley come and try it session required you to be 8 or older...

Re: Cross Discipline Co-operation

Glad it worked, was a bit worried.

We also did cross discipline at Howsham with a WWR event after the slalom, long may it continue.

Re: Howsham Weir

So this morning I am getting things ready to take to Howsham tonight. My priority just now is printing signs asking people not to use the toilets as rubbish bin after we got a £60 fine last year as the toilets were full of bottles and other rubbish. I won't share my thoughts and emotions at the time...

So 'guests' can't enter open online as the system doesn't support it. You will need to email me your details and I'll put them on the system and you can pay on the day. Name, Year of Birth, Club, C1/K1, Sat/Sun/Both, BC Membership No

Re: Howsham Weir

Please get your entries (inc div 4) in asap so we can ensure we have the correct numbers for toilets and catering.

If you are happy to shoot the weir but are new to slalom please enter the open. Based on your result on the Saturday I can then put you in Div 3 or Div 2 on the Sunday via direct entry.

Re: Howsham Weir

Please note we are changing the start list a bit this year, Vets will be in the middle before C2 (allowing paddlers to get back for their C2 runs) and more importantly all of Div 4 including practice will be around lunch time so even late entries can get a practice, followed by run 1 and then run 2.

Re: Vets' Points

I wouldn't enter as an official as I don't have time to be an official, my main priority is generally Olivia which means spending time with her on the water practicing, off the water looking after her and making sure she is on the water for her races and has safety (me) on the water. If I can help a...
