Re: Bibs

We are currently waiting for BAS to open for 2023 applications so it is not possible to apply for bibs.

Hopefully it will be available soon

Re: 6.5 Introduction of a new, plastic boat event

Much my thoughts Jim 1. Div 1 - 3 to have an open event which plastic boats can enter. 2. Allow paddlers gain direct entry in Div 1 -3 (save paddlers having to slog their way through 3 divisions if they are good enough. Main issue with plastic boats will be pole heights and we don't need to be lifti...

Re: Is it time for some outside the box thinking?

I now know of 2 div 1 paddlers that aren’t racing this season because they may get demoted and applying for reranking would secure them in div 1. Can we scrap demotion for the next few years? This is nothing new and happens every year, those who do one race get demoted despite clearly being 'good e...

Re: Applying for bib when promoted

Dee is correct, my post relates to paddlers with a bib (in divisions 1,2 or 3)

Div 4 paddlers should join BC/CANI/CW/CS and then apply for their bib after getting a promotion certificate at an event. As soon as they have applied (within a few hours) they can enter races online.

Applying for bib when promoted

If you get promoted please read the F.A.Q. which is highlighted at the top of the page in the bib application system (BAS). Please do not return your bib as soon as you think you are promoted, it will not speed things up and it least one case the paddler wasn't promoted. Wait for the results to be l...

Re: Jumping the starter.

It should not be a gate, there is no requirement for a paddler to go through it, they just have to cross the finish line. I've seen one placed on the opposite site of the river to the last gate, time could be saved by ignoring it and paddling straight over the finish line. As per Nick's comment a po...

Re: Too few indispensible volunteers

It should be possible to run control with 3 or 4 but its hard work. We've certainly done it sometimes at Howsham and pretty sure Les Ford will confirm that's what happened at Sowerby. I did start some work on kit to reduce volunteer requirements and I know some work has been done by others, trouble ...

Re: Too few indispensible volunteers

Non paddling officials used to be able to achieve points I believe, from memory you filled a card in and got some points, I may be wrong I don't have an old rule book to look through. The officials ranking only reflects the number of races attended and results achieved, favouring the better paddler ...

Re: Is it time for some outside the box thinking?

Perhaps the sport has become TV and squad obsessed (C2 anyone?), shortened sprint races (reducing usable features at many natural courses) and boater cross, creating paddlers only motivated by achieving goals to stay on squad who are lost once most eventually fail, the top of the pyramid is very sma...

Re: Is it time for some outside the box thinking?

After speaking to the calmer, more rational member of our household, I am happy to propose (or second) Mike’s motion that paddle ups count as members of the host division for points calculations. This would seem to be a win win for all concerned. If we ever get back to a point of prem and div 1 get...

Re: Is it time for some outside the box thinking?

Of course there is probably no reason you can't run a div 2 at the same venue on the same day. Just don't call it a 1/2, adjust the course for div 2's. This is what happens at Pinkston for instance. May have to check the rules on that but I can't see any reason why not, that way the course can be se...

Re: Is it time for some outside the box thinking?

The problem with 1/2's is it inevitably meant the course was made easier to accommodate the div 2's, Div 1 races in comparison were harder. I don't personally see the need for 1/2's. PU paddlers can enter if there are spaces - better for ranked div 1 paddlers as it stops div 2's blocking div 1 entri...

Div 4 Organisers

Hi, Please note Dave Spencer has added a feature to simply slalom to produce the Div 4 promotion certificates for you, all you have to is print them. The bottom part of the temporary certificate are for the details I need so I can post the real certificate and slalom information to the promoted padd...

Re: Bibs

A bit of explanation In the prefect world all paddlers would have received paper bib vouchers at the end of the season, even better none would have been given out and instead credits would have been loaded on to the bib application system (BAS). For many reasons this did not happen and a bit of conf...
