It's not long now, and things are coming together nicely! The prizes are on order, the campsite has been arranged, the cakes and bacon have been ordered, all we need now is race day to arrive! A large part of the course will be going up on Wednesday eve, so if anyone local wants a bit of practice i...

Just got back from a thoroughly enjoyable weekend at Howsham weir, lets hope this is a permanent fixture for the slalom calendar. I reckon its one of the best division 2/3 events this year, in fact the best. (Andrew Martin agrees) It was a pleasure to judge on the same section as James Bailey and s...

Again, St Albans has a few old wrecks, and generally manage with people in the club lending boats to the nippers for the odd session

St Albans make use of the permanent gates at harefield (there's a race their soon too!) http://www.canoeslalom.co.uk/courses/harefield.htm

The site isn't owned by any particular club, but a few of the St Albans paddlers now maintain it... There are a couple of sliuces and permanent gates!

Now then!

Well hello there! I know of about 3 wrecks that I'll be able to get my hands on! I'll sort you out with one when I'm back down south in a few weeks, or give me a call if you want one sooner. I assume you've not deleted it so quickly!

Ciao!

Shameless plug... (and I've already got some entries!!) On the 26th and 27th July, a double division 3/4 slalom is taking place on the Grand Union Canal at Harefield, Middlesex. Don't be put off by 'the canal' - there's a couple of sluices to spice things up a bit! It's a 'double' race so there is ...

Has anyone had to draft a risk assessment for a slalom before.

We're runinga on the grand union canal and British Waterways are pretty strict!

I think that I have all of the basic stuff in but wanted to see what someone else had done to see'f I'm going wrong...

Cheers

the 1/2 will be much easier! THe river won't be any different, but the course will be easier, especially on the Saturday. The Div 1 will haev to be a bit more chanllenging, but still shouldn't be as tricky as the selection race. Even if you don't do too well, it'll be a good experience and give you...

Should be a good one! Glad you are coming!

There shouldn't be too much problem with the barges as most of the course will be up by the sluices and environment agency are going to have the sluices set at whatever level we can for the duration of the race. We've been planning!

I think that there is going to be some work carried out on teesside and washburn (I think?), not sure if it's directly linked, but I think that it'll be really good to have a descent site to train on in the south. I think that the Olympics is an ideal opportunity to get some new facilities that we ...

It makes a big difference to people how light the boat is, even if you have to add weight to take it up to the prescibed level. I think that it is wrong to say that there is some of it missing if it is underweight. Having the weight added to the centrechanges the distribution, and means that the no...
