MikeR, I agree, but the young and very confident sometimes think they can stay upright from any situation. I'm trying to teach my son that there will be times when discretion is the better part of valour. I've done high braces, felt stress coming on and given it up - sometimes, potential injury can...

My sons just turned 12, learned to roll this winter and trains (with me) regularly on white water. As his ability to undertake support strokes has developed, I have also taught him to judge each situation. If he's in doubt, or the boat is being pushed or accelerated into a position requiring high s...

A few 100 phone calls, wow Nicky you run big events! I think if you got 10 people to send 10 texts each you'd cover most entries, particularly as most clubs can cascade further from one notification. Not too big an ask in the circumstances. What's Facebook?!! Is it something on that new fangled t'i...

Thanks Les, a tough call to make and you did what you thought was for the best, so lots of respect. In hindsight, I think getting to practise on a full slalom course may be of more benefit than racing! Certainly got a lot more water time!! On a separate note, should entry cards now allow space for ...

Hi Peter, guess that explains why you haven't been out on a Thursday evening. Really sorry to hear you're not 100% Didn't you have issues with this last year? Perhaps it's worth seeing your GP, stressing the long term nature of your problems and asking to be referred to a specialist? Also, I believ...

This is a bit off-topic, but I've seen some great coaching advice on here and hoped to tap into that rich vein. As part of my winter training I've been using a rowing machine doing 10km distances to build stamina. A work colleague also rows and asked me to compete with him at the World Indoor Rowin...

I note that the number of 2/3 Vets increased during the 2009 season, to 22. Obviously still a valid class. I don't think it's necessarily "obvious" at all. I only saw vet's actually racing as a class at one event last year - the Nene when there was 3 - and then you managed to catch each other up on...

- Topic: Are (Div 1) Courses Too Easy

As a Master, who used to race in the 80's but may have a rose-tinted view of the past, I feel that generally, courses are getting easier by being less technical and I'm getting a bit disillusioned as the "keep it easy" lobby appear substantial and forthright. I recall doing Div 3s at Washburn and D...
