Re: Online Entries and the Sponsor Field - opinions please.

I'd have no problem with a free-format field if it had information useful to the race organiser (maybe for Pan Celtic entries, etc) but not if it gets carried through to start lists and results. You could label it "notes" and make it available to the organiser only. Part of the problem, I think, is ...

Re: Vets' Points

At Chapel Falls there was a fair representation of Vets. Here are the points they got (Day 1) and the points they would have got factoring their times by 1.10, 1.15 and 1.20: http://www.canoeslalom.co.uk/info/200619vets_points_projection.gif It's a matter of opinion, but I'd be most comfortable with...

Re: Points calculations with DNFs

For everybody's information
  • Saturday's C1W points have been revised to count the DNF paddler into the calculation.
  • C1M points remain as originally calculated.

Re: Sshhh – it’s a secret! The Pan Celtic

Yes I like Dee's option of holding it along side the Lee Valley British Open and Legacy race. I would, too, but that's a long way from Wales and Scotland and home advantage for England: maybe one year in three, but I don't think it would be acceptable as the regular venue. Teesside is better placed...

Re: Vets' Points

Things that make me uncomfortable with Bob's approach: It squashes all points into very narrow bands, which means factors must be very precise. Factoring points (rather than times) is a new complication for SimplySlalom. And believe me, there are a lot of complications already catered for in SS. The...

Re: Vets' Points

I'm afraid I don't like the Steve/Donna suggestion because it implies that you get 500/1000 points just for getting in your boat and drifting down the course. Surely some sort of performance has to be required and rewarded. A compromise: factor at Prems and Div 1s, leave it as a straight comparison ...

Re: Vets' Points

It might be worth looking at the effect of the tentative factors I suggested above. Here are the points for two races well attended by Vets, as they are and as they would be if times were factored: one Div 1 event, and one Div 2. I'd say they move the points in the right direction. http://www.canoes...

Re: Canoe Slalom photo

More pictures from Div 2, 3 and 4 races please!

I get hundreds of photos of top Prems, quite a lot across Prem and Div 1, but not nearly enough from Div 2, 3 and 4 races. And I like pictures from Div 2, 3 and 4 races, so as long as they're good I tend to publish them.

Sshhh – it’s a secret! The Pan Celtic

The Pan Celtic series ought to be a great event and a brilliant springboard to international competition. But we seem to treat it as an embarrassment. No-one seems to think it’s worth running in its own right, so it piggy-backs on divisional races, with age categories separated to Prem and Div 1 eve...

Vets' Points

There are a lot of Vets who can readily get the maximum 250 points by going to a Div 3 race, and even 500 at a Div 2. The same paddlers get only 100 – 200 points at a Div 1 or Prem race. Vets have to choose – have fun on big water, or chase points at Div 2s and 3s. So the rankings bear little relati...

Re: Map references

The online calendar has never shown the codes, and hasn't shown OS grid references for about 10 years, partly because entries need to be compact for the window display and partly because I have an opinion about their usefulness. I had to check the Wayback machine to find out that I once included the...

Re: How Much is too much for Div 1s

Actually. Rafting is killing these venues for slalom. Actually, without rafting and playboating the artificial courses couldn't survive. It costs millions to build a Lee Valley or a Cardiff, tens of thousands to run and maintain it, and thousands to pump it for a day. We need to be grateful that th...

Dulverton Cancelled

The organisers regret that due to low water levels and lack of rain on Exmoor, Dulverton has had to be cancelled.

Charging of entry fees was postponed until the Thursday before the event, so if you entered online you will not have been charged for this competition.

Regarding HPP July 6th and 7th: Before the events open for entries can we get clarification on the planned event for 6th/7th July. Now showing as Prem/Div 1 on Saturday and Div 2/Pan Celtic on Sunday It was an error that started with the draft (grid) calendar and got carried into the online calendar...

Re: Fins on boats

The rule was clearly intended to eliminate clip in, bolt in or glue in/on fins that can be re-configured between runs When you require and check for radiused ends on the boat for safety reasons it makes no sense to let people put blades on the bottom. Between people feeling that a rule change is re...
