Well, here's a starter for quite a few who were at Bala Mill on Sunday: The sequence gates 5-6-7 was the most interesting on the course. But you had to get through 6 heading slightly right for 7, and the way to do that was to cut through the left side of the little haystack wave beween 5 and 6, and...

Small point of fact needs to be registered here: The only real change to promotion upwards from Div 3 or Div 2 is that you need to do one (yes, just one) more race. The average points needed is just the same as it was before. We have made no change at all to promotion out of Div 4 - it's one in fiv...

I would love to go back to a Prem-plus-5-divisions structure, if we had the numbers racing to support it. And no, experience says that introducing a Div 5 would not increase the numbers. The past fall in numbers came before we scrapped it. I'm certain there were paddlers at Selection who would have...

So somebody propose a change to 20cm to the next ACM - it's rule 27.3.

Sorry - I said 40cm originally. Not a good idea. NP

Nobody competed with "about 50 people" at Wagon Lane. Here are the numbers that raced in K1M: Saturday: Div 3 17, Div 4 12 Sunday: Div 3 19, Div 4 6 It shouldn't be easy to get up to Div 2, it should be quite hard to get up to Div 1, and it should be tough to get into Prem. It doesn't help paddlers...

I wasn't at this one, but looking through the results is interesting. I've never seen anything like them. In the entire event, only two paddlers pulled off a clear run - and then only one each. They were officials, both good Prems. Of 51 K1M men, only 13 didn't 50 on at least one run. The winner ha...

Ah, no John, I haven't. What I'm saying in "specifically, a paddler necking who bumps a pole “open” with his head can only do it if he would have got his head through anyway" is that if you can bump a gate open with your head it's almost certainly NOT a DD within the rules, because if you can get y...

Sorry but I still see exactly what I saw before. From the camera position we really cannot make this judgement either way. We cannot tell whether the heads would pass through the gate line without the displacement because we cannot see the upstream/downstream relationship of boat and gate. What we ...

I’m a Section Judge. I wasn’t at this race, so I’ve no axe to grind and only the video to go on. Here’s my personal assessment: The boat is moving to river left to get a downstream gate. We can’t tell from the video the relative upstream/downstream positions of boat and gate, but it’s clear that it...

At the end of this week we intend to take stock of all the feedback, both here on the bulletin board and from other sources, and get some proposals in place.
So last input, please!

Hi Guys Bear in mind that you don't get promoted on two results. You need five good ones, or three wins. None of the four who polished off their promotions at Llandysul got up on three wins, so all of them had at least three good results on other courses. That must make them pretty good paddlers on...

The format for this year's selection was new: one weekend, three races: one of two runs, and two of one run each - the idea being to recreate something like the 'feel' and pressure of a major event.
What did you think of it? Did it work? Was it 'fair'?

I think John is right: there is no specific rule that says the section judge must record the highest penalty. But it is usual (UK) practice, the assumption being that a dodgy decision will be protested. This might seem biased, but so are protests - have you ever protested to get a penalty put on, r...
