Re: 6.1 ACM Voting

All clubs are NOT equal Proposal 6.1, "ALL clubs should have equal voting powers" sounds very reasonable until you realise that it gives a club with 3 ranked paddlers the same influence as one with a hundred or more. I'm puzzled by the preamble: it reads as though the writer hasn't understood the r...

Re: Ranking and Promotion

So you must get your case in early next month. No. (B 3.1) ...applications must be in writing and received by the 31st October. Email is OK, and John might stretch a point on the date for a good case, but there's not a lot of time left. Usually the only criteria accepted are long-term injury and wo...

Re: Ranking and Promotion

Jim W said "putting the lower capacity events early and the higher capacity events later in the year" Nice idea, but capacity is dictated mainly by water time, the time of year (shorter daylight hours, for example) and other factors outside our control. But thinking further: if Prem and Div 1 races...

Re: Ranking and Promotion

Windsor says "Should we agree now ideal numbers for Prem, Div 1 and Div 2, ensuring a pyramid..?" The Committee have been pursuing a pyramid for the past twelve years. Every year they review the division stucture and demote towards a target pyramid. We get closest to it in K1M, because the numbers ...

Re: Ranking and Promotion

James says "I know of no other sport in which a divisional system is used that has more promotees than demotees." I find that odd, because the other factor is dropout. Every year life happens and a substantial number of paddlers drop out, and drop off the lists. That's the (more or less) balancing ...

Dave brads wrote: I really should check my facts! Andy is quite right that very few paddlers have been promoted as a result of a PU result. Re: Ranking and Promotion

JimW wrote: ...why are the div 2 races on harder water struggling? It may be because promotion to Div 1 is stripping Div 2 of the paddlers who would have relished a challenge. Across all classes, about 100 paddlers a year get up to Div 1, and they must logically be the keenest and most capable. Dav...

Re: Ranking and Promotion

I’m not sure Nick’s suggestion would make much difference. A vast majority of the Div 2 promotees have their best 5 results comfortably in their last 12 events. Acknowledged. Andy's proposed new promotion targets are quite a drastic shift. The trouble with changing targets is that it's hard to pred...

Re: Ranking and Promotion

After all, are we really 'Holding people back' as it may not be a bad thing to spend at least one season in each of the 4 divisions currently available. Yes, Steve, we are. To a great extent we are talking about teenagers whose development can be explosive: from time to time a complete newcomer mak...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

ref C34.12 it states - " If there are 10 or more starters a second prize will be awarded". It wasn't adhered to probably because it is just the C2 class. I doubt this was some sort of prejudice against C2s. I don't know the facts for this race, but scratch C2s in particular are very often last-minu...

Ranking and Promotion

Each year the sport gets top-heavy with more paddlers than we can cope with in Prem and Div 1, and worthwhile competition is stripped out of Div 2 and Div 3. The "easy" solution is to raise the promotion targets, but I don't think that's the best option. The real issue is that Div 2 and Div 3 paddle...

Re: Championship Format in Prem

That would make the "superfinal" into a parade, and award places and points points out of all proportion to performance. Let's keep the race open and give the top J16s prizes as top J16s, and places in the final if they earn them.

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

You have to be ranked to use the online entry system at all, so scratch crews are excluded from online advance entry by default.

Re: Coping with Numbers in Div 1

Published for Lou at Llandysul Paddlers: Our October slalom is one of the last div 1 races of the season and therefore it is always super busy and there is always a waiting list. As you know we ALWAYS try and make sure that everyone gets a race and last year we even flirted with the realms of dayli...

Re: Simplifying Vets

Taking a step back, it's probably worth asking why people turn Vet rather than racing as Masters in the mainline divisions. They ought to speak for themselves, but I think it's because: * There's a Vets camaraderie on the start line * There is no risk of demotion, so they can take a relaxed approach...
