Re: Paddler Retention

Perhaps a motion to put the committee would be to develop club focused, interclub, inter regional and inter home nation competition structure with a focus on clubs being funded to attract 20 new paddlers into a structured coaching program at their club. The goal would be to produce a structure to fa...

Re: Paddler Retention

I want to emphasise that this is as well as the divisional structure and not instead of it. Perhaps the number of ranking competitions might reduce to make space for regional races, but clubs will run more races and more interclub and then inter regional races with better turnouts.

Re: Paddler Retention

There's some great observations here. I agree with lots. Although divisive to some, I though the TID was an enormous success in terms of getting kids into the sport. But an enormous fail in terms of retention. On balance, I liked it and they identified what is possible if minds are concentrated. I t...

Re: Paddler Retention

From the outside, looking in...Canoe Slalom at national level looks like a childrens sport.

Re: Paddler Retention

Or...is it because when we bring kids in on TID they are part of the GB canoeing set up. Club paddlers are part of the club set up. TID's seem to be told that this is the only way to make team and team this and team that and the rest of the paddlers are not going to be able to compete with you becau...

Re: Paddler Retention

Some interesting points raised. From my own perspective, I can say from the people that I have coached into Prem, that the goal was to get to Prem. It was all consuming in terms of their paddling and they each put in a tremendous amount of energy and effort to achieve this goal. Having reached it th...

Paddler Retention

Why do paddlers stop paddling? I see a lot of young paddlers getting on quickly in the sport and making it into div 1 and Prem, only to quit after a year in Prem. They seem to invest quite heavily in themselves and achieve very quickly but then just stop. TID and group paddlers seem to do well then ...

Re: Sshhh – it’s a secret! The Pan Celtic

Good idea. I guess the trick would be to make it a proper international, like an ECA race. In which case, you follow the international competition rules and invite teams from the home nations & Ireland...but also invite other nations perhaps...like the interclubs, teams of 10 or so and make a two-ra...

Re: Fins on boats

Hi Steve In answer to your question...yes and or no. It would depend upon how the rule was being interpreted. By strict application of the words (Literal Rule) yes. a sticker protrudes from the hull and would be a basis for disqualification. as would a boat repair to the hull. etc...if it protruded ...

Re: Fins on boats

I said and Item...but meant to quote the rule..."any object." The Hull moulded to include the shape of a fin, is not an "object" protruding from the hull. The hull itself, cannot be an "Object" that protrudes from itself...

Re: Fins on boats

So I am a little confused. On the face of it, it sounds straightforward enough. But actually, it's not. The rule was created to do away with those huge shark fins that people were glueing onto their hulls. They were clearly dangerous. So the new rule talks about being manufactured into the hull moul...

Re: How Much is too much for Div 1s

Actually. Rafting is killing these venues for slalom. 20 full rafts at £30 per head is around £4K per day . That's what they want these days to run events on these sites as the rafts pay for everything. Slalom is not even at the table when it comes to discussing the fees. It's very much take it or l...
