Re: What is the Spectators Race in Online Entries and What do I do?

Just for clarity here, not all competitions are using “Spectators” to collect data. So, if you can’t see a spectators race then you don’t need to do anything.

What is the Spectators Race in Online Entries and What do I do?

If you are entering a competition via Online Entries, you may have come across a “Spectators” race which is clearly a tad confusing as it is not really a race at all! Paddlers entering other races do not need to enter the Spectators race, but if you are attending and not racing eg parent, coach, gen...

Why isn't a competition on canoeslalomentries?

I get asked this question frequently. For a competition to be visible on canoeslalomentries ... The organiser needs to have fully completed and submitted their yearbook data (a few still outstanding!) I need to initiate the competition on canoeslalomentries The organiser needs to check and publish t...

Re: OnLineEntries ... Going Down

PS I should say it's only certain places that I've succeeded in speeding things up. There is still a lot that is much slower

Re: OnLineEntries ... Going Down

I think I have managed to speed things up quite a bit. I'm not sure that any of the slowing down was due to MySQL upgrade, so much as a combination of loosing some local caching due to a package change and the fact that I've not really tried to help performance at all over last couple of years and t...

Re: OnLineEntries ... Going Down

Having checked this out ... query cache is deprecated in 5.7 and removed altogether in v8. Also reading various docs, from what I can understand (which is limited!), I'm not sure that it would help - implication is that it wars with InnoDb. Also our tables are small - the entries table (which is the...

Re: CanoeSlalomEntries Support for Covid Slaloms

According to https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/963491/COVID-19_Response_-_Spring_2021.pdf on 27th March ... Formally organised outdoor sports – for adults and under 18s - can also restart and will not be subject to the gatherings limits, ...

Re: CanoeSlalomEntries Support for Covid Slaloms

PS I am able to update sessions, but may have disabled them for organisers as it does require a bit of fiddling and best discussed before actioning.

Re: CanoeSlalomEntries Support for Covid Slaloms

Hi Jim, Although I did not originally write canoeslalomentries with a pandemic in mind, I think that there are some (non-perfect) work-arounds which would be worth considering. Division Limits Whilst you cannot limit by division - it is possible to limit by race. So two options: Limit Div 2 K1M to 1...

Re: OnLineEntries ... Going Down

Well, it is now backup and, as far as I can tell, everything is working again. :D It seems to be running slower than usual which is puzzling me :? but I might just leave it to settle for now and have a look next weekend. It's really time I got dinner on now and I think I could do with a day away fro...

Re: OnLineEntries ... Going Down

Currently using a db.t2.micro on eu-west, single zone. Their pricing structure is as clear as mud, but once it was up and running it appears stable enough for our purposes and we could pretty much ignore the core db side of things (using workbench for schema management) ... until now! Trouble is the...

Re: OnLineEntries ... Going Down

Thanks We currently use AWS for hosting the db, which I've paid for in advance to keep costs down, though moving could be something to consider in the future. Support is somewhat limited and their user interface is a bit daunting (I'm really more of a Project Manager/Business Analyst than a true tec...

OnLineEntries ... Going Down

Not permanently, but I need to upgrade the database and it will be easier and safer if I can take the system down and then take backups etc before doing the work. All being well, I plan to take it down Friday. It might be up by Sunday, but if I hit any awkward snags it might stay down for a couple o...

Re: John Sturgess

I am so sorry to hear this. The last time I saw him was at the LV Div 1, but I was only thinking of him yesterday (a comment at the Slalom Committee meeting brought him to mind). When I saw his name appear here, I thought at first that the thread had been created by him to explain some of his ideas ...
