Re: Should we have a sweepstake?

I have to say, having used it to enter the two Cardington races for my three boys in Div 4 (and me and Ethan in C2), it's such a massive step forward. That would have been 16 entry cards for me to complete, and poor overworked Patrick to enter! Thanks again Dee for all your hard work on the entry sy...

Re: ICF Drops C2 from World Events

It obviously didn't help that we stopped selecting C2s, even if they were self-funding. The current decision feels like a shop that decides to stop ordering tinned tomatoes, then sees that sales drop so says 'wow, glad we stopped ordering those timed tomatoes....'. C2 has gone through a massive shoc...

Re: Best kayak?

I'm a C1 paddler so not really up on the pro's and con's of different kayak designs, but I would say that especially if you're getting back into paddling after a break, go for something higher volume, so maybe cut for 85kg (XL in Vajda boats) as it'll be more forgiving especially on moving water. Bo...

Re: Should we have a sweepstake?

I'm planning on using it for entries for my boys this year. I suspect that'll be the way it'll be most used - existing paddlers/parents who are aware of/used to the system and will find it a lot easier than faffing around on the day with entry cards, cheques etc. I expect there will still be large n...

Re: 6.2 Division 1 / 2 Competitions

At the Shepperton 1/2 in previous years I think the course design has been spot-on, provided the water levels are good. There's a big cross that the solid Div 1s can do quickly, but will catch-out the bottom-end Div 1s and mid level Div 2s who get washed down and have a paddle-up. Certainly plenty o...

Re: Ranking and Promotion

Feels to me like if we want to strengthen Div 2 by demoting more from Div 1 and improving the quality of Div 2 races, without losing significant numbers of demoted Div 1 paddlers, or complicating the system by adding a Div 1.5 (whatever it's called) it's a long-term strategic decision. Should we agr...

British Open photos

Hi all, some amazing photos here taken by Chris Worrall, an ex slalom paddler.

I think pretty much everyone who was racing on either day is here somewhere!

C1 for the larger paddler!!!

BIG BOAT FOR SALE! Vajda Supremo 2 XL, Elite spec. Cut for 85kg, should be fine for 80-90kg. Good condition, no leaks, no breaks, no repairs other than some gelcoat here and there (you can see where it's been rubbed down and filled). Fully fitted out, with straps and a bag with a dodgy zip. Asking f...

Re: Simplifying Vets

I'd certainly want to retain the ability to enter Prem and championship events (unless this weekend goes really badly....) I'm all for simplifying as far as possible, and so would support a single Vets division with simplified points. However, I can foresee some resistance from non-vets if any Vet t...

Re: Simplifying Vets

My reason for going into Vets when I started racing again was mostly because at the time I thought I'd just want to do Shepperton each year, probably not do very well and wouldn't have enough points to stay up, so would bounce between div 2 and div 1 As it turns out, I've done loads more racing and ...

Re: Coping with Numbers in Div 1

I have accumulated 1703 points this season which should have been enough to keep me in Div 1, so I have not entered anymore races. However, now there is talk of moving the goalposts, is this fair? Something I was going to add to my comment, but forgot, it does only seem fair to make it clear at the...

Re: Coping with Numbers in Div 1

Just having a look at the current situation in K1M, roughly 32 boats have gone up during the season, if it were to end now, just to keep the class the same size you'd need to demote everyone below about 70th place (obviously excluding those on SS), equating currently to around 1900 points. Not sure ...

Thanks Steve, with Dee's clarifications I'm happy with the proposal.

Thanks again for getting everyone's input and pulling it all together.

Re: Simplifying Vets

I guess that leads to the question - do we need Vets AND Masters? I've been toying with paddling Div 1, as it's mostly just me and Dave racing each other (and generally both getting max points), and trying (and succeeding ;) ) to beat the P/1 Vet kayaks. It's fun having the back-and-forth with Dave,...

Re: Time for a radical rethink?

Sorry Dave, getting a bit off topic but I should clarify... For coached courses we'll take under 14s without their parents being on the water (although they do still need to join as we're conscious that when they have completed their course, they need someone to be able to take them out paddling). I...
