Re: 6.2 Entry Fees

Alison - we have had several requests to the Slalom committee for financial support in 2019 but this is the tip of an iceberg. Some are making a loss and not asking for help and many are probably making a loss and not really recognising it as there account do not include everything. we can do more t...

Re: 6.2 Entry Fees

Thanks for the suggestion of team runs Steve. These would not impact on the cost base at the lower divisions but would where water time represents part of the cost. I would be happy that this is pushed. Dee, while I accept that the rules imply the minimum fee I am quite happy as part of the debate f...

Re: 6.2 Entry Fees

Thanks for all the comments. Hand up - I looked at the costs of a number of races across the divisions and what they cost to run. I was the source of the proposal to Committee that we need to do something with entry fees. Many races actually only come into profit when they add in the profit made fro...

Re: 6.2 Entry Fees

Races are failing to make profit and the slalom committee has supported clubs where a loss has been made. Catering is profitable for many but is an add on to the event and not always possible. Costs are increasingly challenging for clubs and come from a variety of sources e.g. renting portaloos, fie...

Re: Organisers for 2018 please note

Plans should be with me before the ACM I have heard from quite a few of you - you know who you are - thank you very much. However there are still a number of races hoping to be on the calendar for next year that I have not yet heard from with safety plans. I am about to leave and may not be able to ...

Organisers for 2018 please note

To All Organisers First – Thank you for all the time and effort you all put in to making our sport a success. The 2017 season seems to have gone well but we must start to look to next season and 2018. Please could you start sending me updated risk management plans for next year. There are no new req...

Re: Time for a radical rethink?

Taking the focus of funding of elitism to the nth degree in respect of Olympic medals you would want to identify the paddlers that were going to medal at the Olympics and invest everything in them that you needed to get them there. A sport is however not a sport without wider participation and it ne...

Safety and risk management plans

These should be with me prior to approval of the calendar for next year. This is to comply in full with the BC safety requirements and not of the slalom committee doing. Many have already forwarded plans and for these I am very grateful and you need worry not if marked as received. 2017 Slalom Safet...

Re: Organiser Nightmares

Sorry but I have to disagree with CP. Our banks in Scotland do seem to check the date on the cheque as well as other details. Post dated cheques and those over six months old are rejected out of hand and we then have the hassle of chasing down the producers. The English banks seem to be perhaps much...

Re: Opening dates for entries -Personal Discussion thread

CP- as to the question of your madness:- - asking difficult and impossible questions - guilty - having an encyclopaedic knowledge of the rules - guilty - continuing to devote an inordinate amount of your time to keeping this sport up and running - guilty - dragging your long suffering wife along to ...

Re: Opening dates for entries -Personal Discussion thread

On line is indeed the way to go and many thanks for Dee in expending the time and effort to move this forward. I think one month is too short and would favour probably 3 months. I would agree with Dee opening date is the same for electronic and on line and prior entries are shredded/ignored. On line...

Re: Event Safety

It is not as I understand it a requirement imposed by the insurers. BC has however reviewed its responsibilities and has introduced the safety requirements for all events. The insurers will take this into account in coming to a premium for the insurance, it therefore becomes a requirement for insura...

Re: Event Safety

I do understand the concerns that this is generating. All of us should have had plans in place for all racing last year so it is not completely "New". Slalom is not inherently unsafe and we do not have a lot of incidents. However BC has created the requirement and we have to comply with it for insur...

Re: Event Safety

Thanks Alison - I was aware of the commission of TTRL by the BBC. They have however looked at primarily falls onto helmets or falls where the helmet strikes an object directly i.e. primarily climbing, dangerous environments. In canoeing we are far more likely to need to slide a head across an object...
