Re: Div4 promotions
So the downsides of the system, as I see it. There would be no promotions from flat water events, and it would be harder in general to get into div 3. This is not necessarily a bad thing. But does div 3 rely on the influx of these paddlers to keep events at a decent size? Smaller events at div 3 wou...

Re: Div4 promotions
I like some of Andy’s ideas. You could just scrap the current system for promotion and use the 140% of the top 3 idea for promotion. Looking back, Chloe was one of the few that didn’t meet the standard, but she would have been promoted the next day. One bonus to this is that div 4 paddlers (and thei...

Re: Div4 promotions
I’m not convinced by the up automatically after 5 races. For example, that would put little Peter from Manvers into div 3 and he clearly isn’t ready, great little confident paddler though he is.

Re: Div4 promotions
Paddlers who would finish in the top 60% of the field of div 3 are promoted. Presumably this was introduced in case there are a few good paddlers all of whom deserve promotion. Could the rule not be applied the other way? If a paddler would have finished in the top 60% of div 3 they are promoted and...

Re: Div4 promotions
I agree it’s frustrating, but Olivia will go up at some point, and in a way the transition will be easier if it takes longer as the gap from her to the main group of div 3 paddlers will be less. The girl that beat her by taking a tactical 50 is really going to struggle in div 3 for a while. If you w...

Re: Vets' Points
We could use an alternative system for working out times to compare with the class? Ever paddled for GB? x1.1 Ever paddled in the Olympics? x1.2 Divide by 1.1 for every grandchild/major operation/free bus pass you have. I feel sure we can think of more if we're inventive. I'm happy with the current ...

Re: Canoe Slalom photo
Joel is pulling what Chloe describes as a “Poo Face”, which she normally (quite fairly) uses to describe my face when attempting to compete!

Re: Encouraging volunteers
I am sorry that I came across as angry, and I realise the K1M was judging. However, if boats are slotted in they should go between classes - there were only 7 K1W. And my thanks to him for helping to take the course down at the end, and to all the other volunteers, who are amazing. My point however,...

Encouraging volunteers
Or how not to encourage me to volunteer in future. Today there was an issue with my daughter’s first run that we wanted to protest (it probably would have been rejected, in in the end her second run was awesome rendering even the improved first run irrelevant). However, I ran off to judge straight a...

Re: Division 2/3 Veterans Trophy
I agree with Joel, I’m not motivated by points or prizes (though when I went second vet nationally yesterday you can bet I shared the hell out of it on Facebook!) I just enjoy racing at events where otherwise I would just be carrying boats around. It’s also a way of meeting some great people, partic...

Re: Fins on boats
I think it could be argued that the hull begins below the seam tape? However, a repair that protruded from the original hull would technically fall foul of this rule.

Re: Fins on boats
Just a thought, and taking this rule to its extremity, the rule refers to “any object” protruding from the hull. Could this be interpreted as a piece of tape or even a sticker? Both protrude from the hull. I’m not for one instance suggesting that that is an interpretation, but anybody being disquali...

Re: Back-up Dates?
Surely a back up venue would require a back up organisation team? Asking event organisers to uproot and travel 2.5 hours to organise an event at a venue potentially unknown to them. Most events rely on club volunteers to run. Asking volunteers to travel 2.5 hours is a bit much. If you’ve got a whole...
