HPP Div 1 & 2

The closing date for this race is a little over a week away. Obviously the division 1 entry is over subscribed, but we could do with some more division 2 entries. This is an opportunity for division 2 paddlers to race on Holme Pierrepont. This cannot normally be achieved due to the high cost of hiri...

Re: Simplifying Vets

Yes, that would simplify things completely. The vets will then only be racing against the other vets in their chosen division, which is surely the point of having points :D , and there won't be any problems comparing the result of a division 2 vet against a division 3 vet at the same race. After all...

Re: Simplifying Vets

With reference to Dee's thread, but taking it seriously, how about simplifying Vets like this: So opened the thread. Since then we are on 3 pages and if anything we are further away from simplification than ever. At the end of the day veterans are not important. The veteran class was formed to allo...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

I am also happy with the proposal with Dee's clarifications/modifications. Sounds good to me but I would like to clarify something: If I wish to enter an event.....say the Cardington 2/3/4 the week before interclubs with my clubmate to get some "practice" as we will race interclubs could we enter in...

Re: Time for a radical rethink?

I imagine the age limit for clubs are children who aren't accompanied on the water. We have children out in single boats from about 7-8 but parents have to be on the water with them, so usually we get the parent trained up first so they are able to then take their children out safely That is sad. I...

Re: Time for a radical rethink?

Although Jim makes a lot of sense in his post above I must take exception to the 5th paragraph. Slalom has had a lot of money pumped into it from lottery funding but it has been spent on focusing on the elite when it could have been better spent on increasing participation. So we can place the blame...

Re: C2 Structure for 2018 Season

As one of those dozen that race C2 over the season I would like to have rankings if possible. It seems to me that if we adopt the suggestion that Steve made in his post 1). Quorate / None Quorate C2 Class Races The difference in ranking points secured by C2 race participants if dramatically affected...

Re: Time for a radical rethink?

No, the judges were generally paddlers from other divisions or parents just as it is now. It was hectic though, much longer days as we had to get over 200 competitors (including the judges) down a course at 1 minute intervals. We did have a little more time though, practice runs and team runs were o...

Re: Age Group

J10 is the lowest "official" age group, but some people do put lower age groups on the entry cards. The online rankings database only shows the official age groups, are you looking at the yearbook rankings? I haven't got a yearbook to hand to check.

Re: Prem is dead Long live Div 1P

+1 to what Nick said I agree with Arrowcraft however that all prem paddlers should be able to get an entry at all the events they select, and hence the size of Prem should be limited. I'm not suggesting limiting it to 150 though, as that would mean that all events would be under-subscribed, but we s...

Re: Symonds Yat Slalom

Yes, a fabulous event in a gorgeous setting. I am sure that it isn't the easiest of events to organise so thank you very much for the efforts of everyone. We are already planning to return in October.

I've not been able to find the pictures, can you post a link?

Re: BC in the News

The only elected official in British Canoeing is the president and they recently tried to remove that post. It is a long time since there has been any real accountability to their membership.

Re: British Canoeing AGM

I think you are right, I kind of assumed that Ivan had done his research. Nevertheless he has a strong personality and may stir things up a bit in the British Canoeing board meetings, which can't be a bad thing.

British Canoeing AGM

It is worth reading this thread on the UK Rivers Guidebook forums . On the face of it British Canoeing are trying to pull a fast one to ensure that they prevent interference in their governance from their membership. Ivan Lawler is a coach from the Sprint disciplines and he is standing for President...
