I am sorry you feel that way. It was not my intention to boast about my exploits this weekend, just to make paddlers generally aware of the current situation on the Dee. Furthermore, I really appreciate the efforts you have made to run this event in the past, and the efforts continue to make to bri...

Did the Dee today - and it was very big. No way could they have run a slalom on it either. Did two runs from the Horseshoe weir to below Town Falls once in slalom boats, and once in playboats. On the second run we did Serpents Tail twice, and the Town four times, no hassles, just lots of smiles and...

I don't know. By the time we got there, the water was turned off because one of the new obstacles was coming adrift and so the course was closed for safety reasons.

2 hours drive each way, to train on flat water - aaaaargh!

We were at Augsburg a couple of weeks ago, and there were a few of the DD short boats about. One belonging to some Germans staying on our campsite had broken its tail on the Washing Machine, so the new boats will certainly not be indestructable.

The shorter boats will have to be deeper in the hull to maintain the same volume, so actually short boats may be more comfortable than the longer ones for tall people, as you will be able to sit with your legs more bent.

Yeah, but it isn't the paddlers that are using the races as bargaining tools, it is the anglers/landowners. First they remove all access, then as a sop they say we can have the races back, and four other days for touring, but with restrictions on numbers. This river is only one hours drive away for ...

I for one am not signing the petition to get the WCA and the BCU to come to an agreement over access to the Dee, so that we can have our competition at Llangollen Town. Don't get me wrong, I love the Town slalom (even though its not as good as the Serpent's Tail), mostly because it is natural, and w...

Yeah great course - not that I did too well on it either. What is good about canoe slalom is that every course is different. I sensed a move (at least in this country) towards standardisation of courses, which would allow coaches to train their atheletes more easily, but which I felt would take too ...

In answer to Nick's points about boat speed, this suggests that courses will not change with the shortening of boats, but this is kind of inevitable. Take Dutch Geezers point about the stagger between the Flintstones and the Pyramid - only the top paddlers were able to do it straight. With shorter b...

I am not surprised at all that the shorter boats are faster. If the optimum length was 4m, as some people were suggesting, then variations in design would mean that some boats would come out slightly longer than 4m. This has never been the case, so the ideal length for a slalom boat must be less tha...
