I think it possible that there could potentially be a few more div 1 vets next year - a few current div 1 DVs who are in danger of being demoted have said to me that they will make the switch in order to continue competing at div 1 events rather than drop to div 2. It is often the case that old bon...

One could argue that officals do pay for their entries - it's just that they pay with their time.

Given how hard it is to get judges at many events, perhaps they should be given priority!

This is very much a problem that arises in the lower divisions - the further up you go the less likely this is to happen (although I think at Grandtully it's sometimes necessary to wait when a rafter comes through). I'm in two minds about the problem. In some ways I have to agree with you - I know ...

The order of classes is not fixed anywhere. However, if you have a river which is going up or down during the course of the day then classes which rely on K1M results for points calculation (eg Vets, C2) need to be run as close to K1M as poss. Some organisers will vary the order though so at some e...

Munchkin - I love the idea of rouge men - do they go red because they have to work so hard to compete :-D (I know it's probably a typo; but such a lovely one) I understand where you are coming from though when looking at div 4 to 3 or even 3 to 4. The entry numbers just don't allow for the right sp...

Maybe they will become valuable in the future for representing the event that never happened.

Munchkin Well I must admit that, particularly in divisions 2 and above I think min number to be quorate should be 5 across the board. 3 just doesn't reliably provide the right competition. I suspect 3 was introduced when the concept of so few competitors was not believed. Percentages against K1M ti...

More thoughts: If 5 or more C1Ws then award points based on relative positions, only use percentages if entry base is less than 5. This provides scope for class growth. When using percentages stick with K1M - this is usually the biggest class by some margin and therefore likely to be more statistic...

Fair enough, but please consider the organiser and use the same thickness of card etc. Occasionally I've received entry "cards" printed on standard paper. It doesn't sound that bad I know, but they don't stand up in the racks, get missed when in the stack and tend to disintegrate more quickly at th...

Poor you Jim You and your helpers (and all those others who have been/will be involved in cancellations this year) have my sincere sympathies. It really is frustrating to put the effort into the preparation only to have to go through all the effort of cancelling with nothing to show for it. And of ...

Variations may apply - I think I see my response as maximum timetable judging for paddlers doing officials duties in return for their runs, but excluding club members who could well be asked to do more and recognise that time may lengthen a little given an overrun. If I was looking at ranking(payin...

Hi CP A think thats rather good - simple, clear and unambiguous, but then I have no design skills either:-D Not sure about the green dotted lines though (took me a fair time to twig that they were gates). Perhaps we could just put Canoe and Kayak in opposite quadrants Odd but I can't see Mark's ver...

[QUOTEPerhaps those complaining of petrol costs should start doing a few judges runs in Prem or div2 events the day before or after the div1 race. The more judges there are, the shorter the stints] mmm... we went to a race not so long ago where the judging stint required in return for a judges run ...

Canadian Paddler/Anne I'm not sure that we can extrapolate actions from the "hey day of slalom" to the current day. Not only has slalom changed but while we were looking the other way so did the rest of life. When we were students we had grants/fees paid/support from the union to enter races etc. I...
