"we went to a race not so long ago where the judging stint required in return for a judges run was 2hrs in the morning plus 3 hrs in the afternoon" I think I judged at that one too, other judges appeared to get off very lightly with a couple of 30 minute sessions. Still it kept me out of trouble. I...

A perfect example of where a non divisional league would operate better.

Perhaps the slalom committee could run it in this way to a) promote women's c1 and give you come competition and b) trial a non divisional structure in a limited manner.

Just a thought

That is easily solved, just put the cost up to the same level as whatever race the division is with the extra going to the organising club I'm sure they will welcome the extra income. No offence meant (particularly to Dadstaxi) but whilst I can see there are sometimes valid reasons for avoiding jud...

"Perhaps those complaining of petrol costs should start doing a few judges runs in Prem or div2 events the day before or after the div1 race. The more judges there are, the shorter the stints, its free, fun, gives something back to the sport, and might even help their div1 runs. More paddlers from ...

"I take my son to lots of Div 3s and often the entries struggle to get into double figures per main class. Could this be beause there are to many races and to much choice, surely less races would mean more entries!" Nope exactly the opposite, most paddlers at this level will not travel very far. We...

Given the option most paddlers I know will Judge rather than enter an open. Why spend all that money when you can race for free. You can still compare your time with any other paddler who raced in any division that you are interested in,

Dave - I take your point but there is no proof either way as far as I can see. Both your idea (less events, less opportunity to race but hopefully people manage to rearrange their life to suit and make it more competitive) and mine (more events, more opportunities to paddle for those who are keen a...

Just my opinion.... comments.... not designed to upset anyone.... as I don't know the full picture please bear with me if I am ill informed. "It has been the Slalom committees intention to reduce gradually the number of Div 1's but this is not easy" Why is this policy? I guess the idea behind this ...

You can see why its an issue - why should one paddler race for free as a Judge and another pay £17.50 and still end up paying and getting asked to judge. As I mentioned earlier I don't see a major issue as long as paying paddlers are only expected to do say one 30 min stint if sufficient judges hav...

"I also feel double div 1's should only be at events where Div 1 standard water is pretty much guaranteed." IMHO once we start on that route then we will only race on release courses where the exact flow can be guaranteed. Whatever the venue everyone has the same conditions and the opportunity to r...

I can't see that one working Anne. I would feel any system where they could earn points or prizes etc would be very confusing for organisers and the whole point of a DV is that they have opted in and that a V has opted out. A VP paddling up a division would be likely to get caught by newly promoted...

Yes S is taken but not S35, S45, S55 but as I said I don't really care what it is called in truth. Just thought I'd be kind to a few Vets. Guess that counts me out from having senior moments then and no chance of blaming it on being blonde either! "There are Veterans of both genders so we need to a...

From the other angle it also makes much more 'economic' sense for the organisers too. Setting up a course can take 2 or 3 days in some cases, doing that for a single event is soul destroying. In addition there is the lost revenue from camping, food etc. Given that the BCU take a large slice of entr...

Not sure how adding more races would dilute the numbers at each. By making them doubles it is more likely people will attend as they get more value for their money. The major cost of an entry for most people is travel. Thus entering a race as a double costs approximately half as much as a race at a...

Phil - that all sounds good. John - "Small point in proposal 3. In other sports I've raced in, running, triathlon, orienteering, the bandings were described as M35, W35 etc. " See no need for this we don't race together so like J14, J16 etc we don't need a gender. Not really bothered what it is cal...
