Re: Pinkston div 2/3 Slalom
Great to see the first event under way and the clever use of the water by having different number of pumps on to suit the Division. Also fantastic to see another slalom site in Scotland. So, in future we could run a Div 3,2 and 1 running on 1,2 and 3 pumps! That would add another dimension to organi...

Re: YOUR SAY
Agree. Many of the questions were about employed staff running the Sport. The Sport is run together by both employed staff and many many volunteers. There are obviously way more volunteers than paid staff but in terms of contribution, you would expect more from employed staff doing this role full ti...

Bourg St Maurice - summer 2014
Hi. Anyone know what the situation is paddling at Bourg St Maurice this summer? The Tigne dam which feeds the River Isere has been drained for maintenance. This dam gets the snow melt which feeds the river in the summer. We have heard there may be very limited water this summer - possibly only an ho...

Re: Tutty - just thoughts on the future
One thing to consider in all of this is that whatever replaces Tutti needs to be 100% reliable, robust, designed to last, easy to use and also inexpensive. Whatever we spend on technology needs to be funded from the administration element of the entry fees. In Scotland, we get about £3000 from the a...

Re: Grandtully Division 1/2 and Pan Celtic
I am loving the updates! Really good to see that the race will be busy - it will make for an exciting race. On the down side, it is shame that all those that want to race cannot race but there is no way round this as there is not enough water time. (On the plus side, It should encourage people to co...

Re: GB Selection Policy
I agree with many of your points but the problems with percentages is that they are not an exact science - they vary according to the course and water water level - last year percentages were easy to get at Tully, this year they were not. Note: Cost is not the reason because the budget must be there...

Re: GB Selection Policy
Silver surfer - you might want to take a look at the Scottish Squad policy which has been published on the Canoe Scotland website. It all looks quite glossy but has become an exercise in nice paperwork rather than delivering canoeing - http://www.canoescotland.org/Compete/Performance.aspx. The final...

Re: publication of start lists
I think this would be a good idea for the organiser to use chatter or the website to publish a list of entries (not a start list) in the lead up to the race. it would be good to see this 3 weeks before the race and then at the deadline. After this it will become a Start List. This was certainly usef...

Re: C2 - The Tim and Etienne legacy
Paddling C2 (and any other slalom category) should not depend on it being an Olympic class. At best, we have 1 paddler per class (except for London) who will compete at the Olympics every 4 years. The overwhelming majority of slalom athletes in the UK will not compete in the Olympics. Has it been co...

Re: Tully 8th March
I totally agree and Slalom are certainly viewed as Cash cows by the SCA. I would also add that not only do the SCA charge at Slalom races but they also charge the SCA Performance Squad a few thousand pounds (exact figure will not be revealed but last figure heard was £5000) to enable them to use the...

Re: GB Junior European Team
I didn't miss your point but was adding my view. I can't comment on what the panel has done in the past but I do think that a full team should be selected for the European Championships if the paddler can demonstrate that they can cope with the water, will race the course and have another year as a ...

C2 - The Tim and Etienne legacy
At the weekend in Junior selection, there were 5 C2s of which 3 were Scottish crews. Why is this? Where are all the other C2s? In 2011, the Scottish performance coach, Neil Caffrey recognised that there were opportunities for Junior Selection in C2. He actively encouraged 2 of the junior C1 men to t...
