Re: BCU Yearbooks 1974 to 1980

I have every (I think) year book from 1970 to the present. If anyone wants something specific from that set, let me know. I'm not planning to scan every one of those though - the lockdown could not possibly last that long.

Re: Annual Consultative Meeting and back to racing discussion

As long as you're sure we won't be in the same position next year, or in the next pandemic, which it has been suggested, isn't as far away as the last one. I was thinking more of future-proofing the rules, rather than making an adjustment this year.

Re: Annual Consultative Meeting and back to racing discussion

I will point out that I don't have personal or club axe to grind here - we would only get one extra vote if all of 2019 was used. Maybe a revision to the rule would be in order: something like "have run competitions during the last 10, not necessarily consecutive, months during which ranking competi...

Re: Annual Consultative Meeting and back to racing discussion

I see from the registration form that the number of votes depends on events run in the 2020 season. This is a bit unfair, as the only ones run were very early in the season. Should it not for fairness include 2019 season?

Re: CanoeSlalomEntries Support for Covid Slaloms

We are almost 12 months away from the Div 2/3 event, which is the one with large numbers. I'm sure things will have changed by then. I think we can operate within a lmit of 200 people, including parents, officials etc, without making a large loss. The Div 4 in April doesn't attract large numbers - 2...

Re: CanoeSlalomEntries Support for Covid Slaloms

re: numbers limit. At the Nene we have no boundary fence, and public footpaths and cycleways running through the site, including directly adjacent to the course. Policing a limit will be impossible.

How do we deal with this?

Re: Promotion and 50's

I found myself thinking back to an Old Windsor Div 2 slalom, where most of the radials were open. After the first runs, ALL the C1 paddlers had missed a lot of gates. The best score was a paddler who had left the start line, done gate 1, then gate 18, then crossed the finish line. Admittedly on the ...

Re: Paddler Retention

It would perhaps be instructive to find out the ages at which paddlers drop out. There are several boundaries which might have a significant effect i.e.: GCSE at 15/16 Driving license at 17, (hence no taxi service) A level at 18 Uni at 19 (other interests) Work at 17 or 19 (low income, more time com...

Managed Calendar timescales

We (Northampton CKC) are experiencing difficulties because of the 5 month delay between having to submit managed calendar applications, and getting confirmation of the dates. This year for example, we pencilled in the applied-for date of the Sept Div 2/3, but as the Centre don't take bookings outsid...

September Nene 2/3 Slalom Cancelled

Unfortunately we have had to cancel the Nene Div 2/3 event scheduled for Sept 28/29th this year. This is because of a booking error that happened during the transfer to a new operating company for the Centre, and means the whitewater course could not be available. We do fully intend to run an event ...

<quote> A slalom course should average 300m distance through the gates and take about 100 secs for K1M.</quote> On the Nene whitewater course, our 18 gates cover about 250 metres and take around 110-120 seconds for K1M. Should we shorten the course to get to 100 seconds, or lengthen it to get to 300...

Nene Events

Online entries are now available for both the Nene slaloms, Div 4 Saturday April 21st, and Div 2/3 double, Sat/Sun September 29/30th. The Divv 4 is a 12-gate flatwater course below the weir. The Div 2/3 is on the whitewater course. Entry fees for the Div 2/3 are enhanced (due to the £800+ cost of ru...

Re: Nene slaloms 2016 - entries open

The event at the Nene Whitewater Centre on June 4/5th is a Div 2/3, not Div 2 only as shown on the slalom website. It's correct in the Yearbook. I suspect this mix-up is due to the change from portable points at the ACM. We have plenty of spaces for your entries, online, postal or in person. http://...
