Re: 6.15 Div 1 Practice

especially as Div 2 paddlers going up to 1 may not have paddled anything bigger than Cardington. I think this is part of the problem that is trying to be addressed. This year we have had division 2 races at HPP, Lee Valley Legacy and Grandtully, so div 2 paddlers have had opportunities to paddle on...

Re: 6.4 Officials Competition

Oh I see, I read the background as saying practise is restricted in div 1, which at present it isn't.
Quite right though, the rule itself doesn't make any such assumption and is not affected either way, although it would also work nicely with 6.15 if both are passed.

Re: 6.12 Restricting Paddle Up

The problem with using bib number is that it relates to last years ranking, and by mid way through the season some paddlers that ranked lowly at the end of the previous year or were promoted in the curent year will be knocking on the promotion door - those being the paddlers that paddle up is design...

Re: 6.13 Simplification of the Paddle Up Rules

In the case of a multi-division competition (e.g. Div 1/2 or Div 2/3) where the courses are identical all paddlers in the lower division are considered ‘paddling up’ in the higher division. [/u]. B3.3.2 “Paddle Up” Participation Conditions The entry fee payable will be the same as for competitors i...

Re: 6.12 Restricting Paddle Up

Excellent - I have had something similar going around in my head for the last few days as a possible way to reduce the paddle up issues, although I was thinking about it from another angle. I'll be interested to see if this gains support, particularly from event organisers who will need to print off...

Re: 6.4 Officials Competition

I may be missing something, but doesn't this wording assume that 6.15 will be passed?

Re: Is C2 Viable as a ranking class?

I have a feeling that if portable points gets voted in, the idea of letting any C2 enter any race will work pretty well. Since the points available double as you increase a host division, crews will be encouraged to race in the hardest host division they can, perhaps even cherry picking a few venues...

Re: Is C2 Viable as a ranking class?

I think we need to understand what Nick actually means by dropping C2 as a ranking event (ICF word for class) - does this mean dropping it altogether, or allowing C2's to race on a 'cup' basis (can win prizes on the day) but not bother to work out points any more, or just not officially compiling th...

Re: Is C2 Viable as a ranking class?

Teamwork. I'm not even vaguely qualified to talk about C2, I struggle to harmonise in a tandem open canoe so I'm never likely to try and get in a slalom C2 with someone else, but I do play polo so have some experience of working as a team in separate boats, as well as the teamwork aspects of river r...

Re: Reduce the number of events across the Divisions?

Most if not all of the Div 2 races I've been to this year have been full, or very close to full, certainly the ones in England, although Shepperton this weekend might be way short. Having more clubs jointly running events to maximise water time sounds great on paper, but is it really practical? - Wa...

Re: Promotion from Div 4 to 3 for inquorate classes

I am pretty sure I have seen exactly what CeeBee is talking about (might have been her club's event), where div 4 K1M had 1 or 2 very unready entries, and all of K1W were promoted as well as one of the K1M. To be fair on the same weekend I beat both div 3 K1M (the winner was in a creek boat, the oth...

Re: ACM Motion - Scrap discounts for Multi Class & Double Ev

As I understand it the main stumbling block with full online entry is on the banking side (different clubs with different banks and account types to be paid through a single banking provider's portal), but maybe it would be possible to create an online fees calculator in the interim to reduce the nu...

Re: ICF Rule Changes

I'm OK - my boat weighs well over 9 kg already :) Ha ha, I decided last night that saying something along those lines wouldn't be a useful contribution to the thread :) My K1 is already over 10kg with some repairs. Not sure about my C1 but it must be over 8 because it was weighed when Spitt used it...

Re: Demos - Paddle up + Portable points impacting numbers?

Perhaps allow PU's to do demos? That crossed my mind, but: Demos are supposed to do sections as well as a complete run (do they? I've only been to 1 prem event, as safety cover, and I wasn't paying attention to the demos!), so paddle ups doing demos would gain advantage over PUs not doing demos, an...
