Time for a radical rethink?

We are constantly trying to attract and retain new paddlers into our sport, as well as make it an entertaining and satisfying for all who compete, whether at elite, intermediate or novice level. I hope that most of us think that "having fun" is also a fundamental part of what we do. In an attempt to...

The future of C2 in 2017

I haven't scoured the rules, so maybe Colin can answer this one quickly for me. Under PP do all entries contribute to making an event quorate? If not, at how many P/1 events can we expect the C2 class to be quorate, given that there will be about 3 active crews remaining after this year's demotions?

Re: Boat Weight Rules

Do you think we could go for minimum crew weights rather than boat weights next season? :-)

Re: 6.5 UKC19.8 Staying In The Finish Area After Your Run.

...and, strictly speaking, mitigating circumstances would include leaving the finish area to actually carry out a rescue unless, of course, we expect the paddlers to wait for an Official to release them to go and help! I'm a bit concerned about arguing about the wording rather than concentrating on ...

Re: 6.9 Promotion Points to be increased for C2

As Steve H notes, there is an alternative thread, and the debate needs to be widened. I don't think a single division would achieve more paddlers as, in my own experience, people generally want to compete with their peers in the same time and the same place and not just paddle for points that lead t...

Re: 6.9 Promotion Points to be increased for C2

Given the number of inquorate events (see other thread!) I would suggest having a look at the statistics to check what difference this change might make to the number of crews promoted (and, more subjectively, the "standard" of promotees). If this change gets more crews paddling at more events and m...

Re: 6.13 Simplification of the Paddle Up Rules

Whilst the thread has drifted away from the original topic, I think we're now debating a more fundamental point. It is true that there are more div 1 paddlers than before, and less div 2 events. We must recognise that with more intensive coaching programmes and more focus on winning medals, the over...

Re: Is C2 Viable as a ranking class?

I apologise for my late entry into the debate, but I've had registration (or finger) trouble. I also realise that it may now be too late to do anything about this for next season - mea culpa. The problems of inquorate C2 events and the future of the class has been troubling me for a while. As my exp...

..and can you clarify what a div 2/3 C2 crew should pay at a div 2/3 event?

Re: Portable points next season

Am I right in interpreting rule D1.1 as meaning no more double events at div 1?? So now we get two runs plus a practice for our money and the long drive up and down the country (or countries). Don't forget that many sites have limited water time available, plus limited daylight in Spring and Autumn ...
