But not everything can be rearranged - try telling the GCSE exam boards to rearrange their exam dates because of the slalom racing calendar. We'll be missing the Washburn next weekend, not because it's a single, but because it clashes with a scuba diving trip arranged by the school, and then there ...

Yes, I can see why it's an issue, and local paddlers always first on the list when we are short of judges. I had both my son and husband helping at the div 1 (and they are both in div 1). I'm also more than happy to accomodate preferences as to judging times (eg "I'd rather judge late - after my ra...

[QUOTE if there are some double 2/1s the judging problem is solved as one division can judge the other. I'm certainly happy to judge if it helps support our sport and I think most paddlers would too ] Unfortunately Paul I don't think this is true. Many competitors feel that if they've paid for thei...

Perhaps the committee could consider dropping section judges for div 1 competitions (unless they are combined with prems), but continuing to provide a jury chair and possibly a second jury member. This would reduce the overall workload for section judges but still ensure that an experience "eye" wa...

[QUOTE With an Open event you will get more competitors and a larger supply of judges.] Can you explain how you reach this conclusion. I would have thought that running an open would mean that many paddlers choose to pay for an open run rather than do an officials run and the number of available ju...

djberriman I sympathise with the "I've paid to race why should I judge as well" feeling and it is largely because of that sentiment that we've stuck with a single div 1 at Shepperton. The idea being that parents of junior competitors (from other clubs) can generally be persuaded once in the weekend...

Dadstaxi is right that I had a poll going at Shepperton. The premise was that, IF we made it a double div 1/2, then entries would be closed a few days before the event (for both divisions) whereas with a double div 2 and single div 1 we closed entries at 10am on Saturday. The majority of those that...

Driving each way doesn't quite work for us. Depending on the traffic I think we would need to leave home Sunday morning shortly BEFORE we got back Sunday night. I hate camping - if I'm going to travel six hours and stand in the rain/ get bitten to death, then I want a real bed and a little luxury t...

Difficult to cast a meaningful "vote" here. Yes we have lots of juniors, but they are mostly at the top end and we don't really do much for newcomers to kayaking as far as I can see (someone yell if they see it differently). To some extent I think we rely on a couple of other clubs to get the junio...

See rule book 11.1 to 11.4 inclusive. Strictly speaking an entry is not valid unless you send a correctly completed card together with correct payment and either an sae or an email address. An organiser could reject any entry as invalid if it doesn't include all of these and then charge for late en...

As someone who does the entries for two competitors I love the idea of internet entry, but..... With regard to email entries (as suggested in the original post)...... This year around half of the entries received for Shepperton div 1/2 were via email. This created a nightmare as far as I was concer...

PS Munchkin You could also try Shepperton 28/29 June - hopefully will be somewhat flatter than for the div 1! We don't normally allow "spectators" on the bridge or island but I'm sure the organiser would make an exception under the circumstances. Another option could be the Nene - the course is fai...

I can't imagine any div 3 organiser discouraging this kind of "assistance", but given that it assumes supporters with loud voices and a paddler with good hearing, I think I would take it a step further. For example ,perhaps we could permit instructions to indicate gate location to be called over a ...
