Re: Paddler Retention

I think we already have a very high standard at the very top. However, we might not in the future if we continue with the current approach. Clubs run events and can only run events if they have sufficient active club members to do so. It takes a few years for a new family to get fully immersed in he...

Teesside Water Time - Wednesday 16 October

We (a Scottish group) have booked Teesside White Water course for 1.5-2 hours on Wednesday morning (9:30 -11:30 or 10:00 - 11:30 depending on numbers) and also 3:00 - 4:00 on Wednesday 16 October to get some slalom practice before the race. We've got spaces if anyone would like to share the cost. Th...

Re: Paddler Retention

University canoe clubs still seem to be very active. Both Glasgow Uni and Strathclyde uni had fresher events at Pinkston last week but they are all in plastic boats. There are so many disciplines within canoeing and most uni clubs do river trips and polo. They have just returned to uni and it is the...

Re: Paddler Retention

So many questions! If you are part of a training squad and then get dropped, many have no other training group to go back to. It is great to get selected for a training squad but as all your training is done with them, you tend to stop paddling with your club or do very little with your club when yo...

Re: HPP Prem/Div 1 - Sept 21/22

Great weekend of racing at HPP. However, there were 16 paddlers listed on the results who did not race. Surely these paddlers could have withdrawn in advance of the race to allow those on the waiting list to get entries. There will always be a couple of paddlers who find they can't race just before ...

Re: HPP Prem/Div 1 - Sept 21/22

Just a thought which may not be possible at this stage.

Given that the J16 championship for K1 Men and Women will be won by a prem paddler, could we move the K1 men (and possible the K1W) categories to be contested on the Saturday instead? This would free up 16 spaces for the Sunday.

HPP Prem/Div 1 - Sept 21/22

Hi I've just been looking at the entries for this race and noticed that the entry limit is 190 for Saturday and 160 for Sunday. The Sunday waiting list has 44 paddlers looking for a ranking or Junior champs race on it. Is there a time constraint for the Sunday that is causing this limit? This is the...

Re: Grandtully Div.2 Rules Clarification Request

It is an exceedingly difficult decision to cancel a race or cancel second runs but it was absolutely the right decision. The organising club have put a lot of effort into running the race before the weekend and the paddlers have often travelled far and forked out on accommodation etc to enable them ...

Pinkston Div 1

Thanks to all those who have asked for practice slots. We now have 6 x 65 minute practice slots with a maximum of 16 paddlers per slot on Friday night. These will start at 2.30 p.m. There are an odd one or two spaces on most Friday and Saturday slots. Please let us know if you would like a practice ...

Re: Fairnilee div 2/3/4 22/23 June

Thank you to you and your merry men and women for running another Scottish Slalom. Fairnilee is a great site thanks to Jim McPherson but the course does take rather a long time to put up especially compared to Pinkston. Always great to see paddlers pulling together to get a race ready. You will have...

Re: Sshhh – it’s a secret! The Pan Celtic

I like the idea of a prestigious Pan Celtic race being held at the British Open for all age groups with the younger age groups being held on the legacy course. However, most of the Scottish younger paddlers have not been on the legacy course and so if this was feasible, we would need the event to be...

Re: Points calculations with DNFs

For the race I am down as an administrator for, I've found some paddlers do let you know they have been promoted and ask for their entry to be cancelled but for most, we are just using the manage promotion button which cancels them if they can no longer race and refunds any entry fees due or offers ...

Re: Points calculations with DNFs

Duncan, good point re McConkey - the results did take a couple of days to go up and so not much time before Tryweryn race. I think we need to be careful to not generate a lot of extra work for volunteers. A few points here or there don't matter. There is always another race to achieve more points. I...

Re: Points calculations with DNFs

It would be good if points could be displayed as part of the results at the race as anomalies are more likely to be pointed out and can be rectified before the results are finalised. However, I appreciate that this could be a technical challenge. The finer details of recording whether DNS, DNF and d...

Re: Sshhh – it’s a secret! The Pan Celtic

The Pan Celtic has typically been aimed at Juniors aged J18,J16 and J14 with J12 added for those who were capable of racing at Div 1 and Prem. It used to always be run at a single race in each home nation but a couple of years ago was split into 2 groups - Seniors, U23, J18 and J16 categories racing...
